The spatial frequency response (SFR) is one of the most important and unbiased image quality measures of a digital camera. It evaluates to which extent a lens/sensor combination can resolve scene details. In this paper, we propose a simple and practical me ...

Plug-and-play denoisers can be used to perform generic image restoration tasks independent of the degradation type. These methods build on the fact that the Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) optimization can be solved using smaller sub-problems, including a MAP d ...

Silicon-based digital camera sensors exhibit significant sensitivity beyond the visible spectrum (400-700nm). They are able to capture wavelengths up to 1100 nm, i.e., they are sensitive to near-infrared (NIR) radiation. This additional information is conventionally treated as noise and is absorbed by a NIR-blocking filter affixed to the sensor. Retaining instead of removing NIR information can significantly improve certain computational photography and computer vision tasks. Indeed, intrinsic properties of

Recent advances in the design of high dynamic range (HDR) monitors enable the display of images having a large dynamic range, close to that encountered in the real world. As their usage will increase, we will be confronted with the problem of rerendering i ...

In this paper, we analyze whether Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is an appropriate tool for estimating spatial information in spatio- chromatic mosaiced images. Ruderman et al. 1 have shown that the spatio- chromatic principal components of cone images contain first spatial information, followed by blue minus yellow and red minus green. However, their analysis is based on fully defined spatio-chromatic images. In case of a reduced spatio- chromatic set with a single chromatic value per pixel, such as pr

Camera phones are ubiquitous, and consumers have been adopting them faster than any other technology in modern history. When connected to a network, though, they are capable of more than just picture taking: Suddenly, they gain access to the power of the cloud. We exploit this capability by providing a series of image-based personal advisory services. These are designed to work with any handset over any cellular carrier using commonly available Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and Short Message Service (S

The present invention aims at providing a method to produce modified images of a human face while removing all defects, such as such as pigmentation irregularities (e.g., moles, freckles), irritation, roughness, or wrinkles This is achieved thanks to a met ...

We propose a method for high dynamic range (HDR) mapping that is directly applied on the color filter array (CFA) image instead of the already demosaiced image. This rendering is closer to retinal processing where an image is acquired by a mosaic of cones ...

Chromatic aberration distortions, such as wavelength-dependent blur caused by imperfections in photographic lenses, have long been studied in color imaging. The problem becomes more challenging to solve in the case of color and near-infrared joint acquisit ...

Near-infrared (NIR) light has stronger penetration capability than visible light due to its long wavelength, thus being less scattered by particles in the air. This makes it desirable for image dehazing to unveil details of distant objects in landscape pho ...

Scattering of light due to the presence of aerosol particles along the path of radiation causes atmospheric haze in images. This scattering is significantly less severe in longer wavelength bands than in shorter ones, thus the importance of near-infrared ( ...

Memory colours refer to the colour of specific image regions that have the essential attribute of being perceived in a consistent manner by human observers. In colour correction-or rendering-tasks, this consistency implies that they have to be faithfully r ...

Following the performance breakthrough of denoising networks, improvements have come chiefly through novel architecture designs and increased depth. While novel denoising networks were designed for real images coming from different distributions, or for sp ...

Super-resolution algorithms reconstruct a high resolution image from a set of low resolution images of a scene. Precise alignment of the input images is an essential part of such algorithms. If the low resolution images are undersampled and have aliasing a ...

From image retrieval to image classification, all research shares one common requirement: a good image database to test or train the algorithms. In order to create a large database of images, we set up a project that allowed gathering a collection of more ...

Depth-from-defocus techniques suffer an ambiguity problem where depth planes on opposite sides of the focal plane have identical defocus. We solve the ambiguity by relying on the wavelength-dependent relationship between defocus and depth. We conduct a rob ...

We introduce a new opponent color space, which aims to mimic the color processing in the primate retina. Recent data from physiology and morphology are used to determine the model and its parameters. The input signal in LMS representation is first nonlinearly transformed by a response saturation stage. Then a linear, spatially extended transformation computes the opponent representation. In contrast to other opponent color spaces, our model does not have a luminance component. Our three components are blue-

We propose InNeRF360, an automatic system that accurately removes text-specified objects from 360 • Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF). The challenge is to effectively remove objects while inpainting perceptually consistent content for the missing regions, whic ...

We present a method to automatically detect shadows in a fast and accurate manner by employing the inherent sensitivity of digital camera sensors to the near-infrared (NIR) part of the spectrum. Shadows are generally found in the dark parts of an image, be it color or NIR. We consider these dark pixels as shadow candidates. By observing that commonly encountered light sources have very distinct spectra in the NIR, we propose that the ratios of the color channels (red, green and blue) to the NIR give valuabl

The ultimate goal of automatic image rendering is a system that gives at least as pleasing results as a human expert using an image manipulation program. In this article we demonstrate that the exploitation of semantic image keywords is a promising approac ...
