Rakesh ChawlaOriginaire d'Inde, Rakesh Chawla y est né en 1947. Après avoir obtenu son doctorat en génie nucléaire à l'Imperial College de l'Université de Londres en 1970, il travaille jusqu'en 1972 à Winfrith comme Research Fellow de la United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority.
De 1972 à 1978, il est engagé comme professeur assistant par l'Institut Indien de Technologie à Kanpur dans le cadre du programme Génie Nucléaire et Technologie. Depuis 1978, il travaille à l'Institut Paul Scherrer (PSI) à Würenlingen-Villigen dans le département de recherche Energie Nucléaire. En tant que chef de projet, il est responsable des divers travaux R&D, comme les études faites sur le réacteur de recherche PROTEUS.
En 1994, il est nommé professeur extraordinaire en physique des réacteurs au Département de physique de l'EPFL, poste qui comprend les activités d'enseignement à l'EPFL et la direction du Laboratoire de physique des réacteurs et de technique des systèmes au PSI. En 1997, il est nommé professeur ordinaire son enseignement porte sur les aspects physiques du génie nucléaire et les travaux pratiques utilisant le réacteur CROCUS à l'EPFL. Ses recherches actuelles comprennent les travaux expérimentaux et analytiques liés à la sécurité des systèmes avancés, au cycle de combustible et à la transmutation des déchets, ainsi qu'au comportement dynamique des centrales nucléaires.
Mikhail ChapochnikovMikhail Shaposhnikov was born in Sochi, Russia, in 1956. He got his degree from Moscow States University in 1979 and his PhD from the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1982 for his work on the problem of baryon asymmetry of the universe in grand unified theories. He worked from 1982 till 1986 as a junior research scientist and from 1986 till 1991 as a senior research scientist at the Theory Division of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow). From 1991 till 1998 he worked as a staff member at the Theory Division of European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN, Geneva). In 1998 he was appointed as a Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Lausanne, in 1999 he became a Director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics of Lausanne University. Since October 2003 he is a Professor at EPFL, leading the Laboratory for Particle Physics and Cosmology.
Jean-Philippe ThiranJean-Philippe Thiran was born in Namur, Belgium, in August 1970. He received the Electrical Engineering degree and the PhD degree from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 1993 and 1997, respectively. From 1993 to 1997, he was the co-ordinator of the medical image analysis group of the Communications and Remote Sensing Laboratory at UCL, mainly working on medical image analysis. Dr Jean-Philippe Thiran joined the Signal Processing Institute (ITS) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, in February 1998 as a senior lecturer. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2004, to Associate Professor in 2011 and is now a Full Professor since 2020. He also holds a 20% position at the Department of Radiology of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and of the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) as Associate Professor ad personam. Dr Thiran's current scientific interests include
Computational medical imaging: acquisition, reconstruction and analysis of imaging data, with emphasis on regularized linear inverse problems (compressed sensing, convex optimization). Applications to medical imaging: diffusion MRI, ultrasound imaging, inverse planning in radiotherapy, etc.Computer vision & machine learning: image and video analysis, with application to facial expression recognition, eye tracking, lip reading, industrial inspection, medical image analysis, etc.
