Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) due to placental insufficiency affects 5-10% of all pregnancies and it is associated with a wide range of short and long-term neurodevelopmental disorders. Different approaches have been considered to understand IUGR effects on brain development. Recently, connectomics has been used to analyze brain reorganization in IUGR children at one and six years of age. Connectomics estimates the brain network and describes it by different graph measures. Diffusion tensor imaging

Pulse-Echo Ultrasound Imaging suffers from several sources of image degradation. In clinical conditions, superficial layers made of different tissues (e.g. skin, fat or muscles) create aberrations that can severely deteriorate image quality. To correct suc ...

Deep learning models have shown great promise in estimating tissue microstructure from limited diffusion magnetic resonance imaging data. However, these models face domain shift challenges when test and train data are from different scanners and protocols, ...

article describes a method used to calibrate 3-D freehand ultrasound systems based on phantoms with parallel wires forming two perpendicular planes, such as the usual general-purpose commercial phantoms. In our algorithm, the phantom pose is co-optimized w ...

Many speech technology systems rely on Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs). The need for a comparison between two GMMs arises in applications such as speaker verification, model selection or parameter estimation. For this purpose, the Kullback-Leibler (KL) dive ...

This article describes a system for participation in the Facial Expression Recognition and Analysis (FERA2015) sub-challenge for spontaneous action unit occurrence detection. The problem of AU detection is a multi-label classification problem by its nature ...

We propose a novel formulation to solve the problem of intra-voxel reconstruction of the fibre orientation distribution function (FOD) in each voxel of the white matter of the brain from diffusion MRI data. The majority of the state-of-the-art methods in t ...

Background: Cerebellar pathology occurs in late multiple sclerosis (MS) but little is known about cerebellar changes during early disease stages. In this study, we propose a new multicontrast “connectometry” approach to assess the structural and functional ...

The thalamic nuclei are involved in many neurodegenerative diseases and therefore, their identification is of key importance in numerous clinical treatments. Automated segmentation of thalamic subparts is currently achieved by exploring diffusion-weighted ...

The “radiotherapy structure set” (RTSTRUCT) object of the DICOM standard is used for the transfer of patient structures and related data, between the devices found within and outside the radiotherapy department. It contains mainly the information for regions of interest (ROIs) and points of interest (e.g., dose reference points). In many cases, rather than manually drawing these ROIs on the CT images, one can indeed benefit from the wealth of automated segmentation algorithms available in ITK. But at presen

Among all satellite imaging systems, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is useful for monitoring purposes, as they provide data at any time under all weather conditions. Today, three spaceborne SAR systems are operational, while by the end of 2007 three furthe ...

Focal epilepsy is increasingly recognized as the result of an altered brain network, both on the structural and functional levels and the characterization of these widespread brain alterations is crucial for our understanding of the clinical manifestation ...

We propose a semi-supervised image segmentation method that relies on a non-local continuous version of the min-cut algorithm and labels or seeds provided by a user. The segmentation process is performed via energy minimization. The proposed energy is comp ...

In this study, we developed a robust inversion algorithm to estimate the Neurite Orientation Dispersion and Density Imaging (NODDI) model. It is based on the Accelerated Microstructure Imaging via Convex Optimization (AMICO) framework. However, in contrast ...

Atlas registration is a recognized paradigm for the automatic segmentation of normal MR brain images. Unfortunately, atlas-based segmentation has been of limited use in presence of large space-occupying lesions. In fact, brain deformations induced by such ...

This paper reviews and extends our previous work to enable fast axonal diameter mapping from diffusion MRI data in the presence of multiple fibre populations within a voxel. Most of the existing microstructure imaging techniques use non-linear algorithms to fit their data models and consequently, they are computationally expensive and usually slow. Moreover, most of them assume a single axon orientation while numerous regions of the brain actually present more complex configurations, e.g. fiber crossing. We

In this paper we present a novel geometric framework called geodesic active fields for general image registration. In image registration, one looks for the underlying deformation field that best maps one image onto another. This is a classic ill-posed inve ...

Conventional ultrasound (US) imaging relies on delay-and-sum (DAS) beamforming which retrieves a radio- frequency (RF) image, a blurred estimate of the tissue reflectivity function (TRF). Despite the non-stationarity of the blur induced by propagation effe ...

Neonatal Intensive Care Units are an extremely noisy and stressful environment, known to be deleterious to the neurological condition of preterm born infants. In a time when the sensory environment is critical for the infants’ development, implementing new acoustic solutions relying on evidence-based research is key for offsetting these risks. Music and voice interventions have shown beneficial effects on preterm infants’ brain, behavior, and physiological development, increasing our understanding of the ef

Image segmentation is a key area of research in computer vision. Recent advances facilitated reformulation of the non-convex multi-phase segmentation problem as a convex optimization problem (see for example [2, 4, 9, 10, 13, 16]). Recently, [3] proposed a new convex relaxation approach for a class of vector-valued minimization problems, and this approach is directly applicable to the widely used classical Mumford-Shah segmentation model [11]. While the approach in [3] provides the much deserved convexifica
