A tritium imaging plate technique (TIPT) in combination with an electron-probe microscopic analysis (EPMA) were applied to examine tritium (T) retention characteristics in individual dust particles collected in the Joint European Torus with the ITER-like W ...

We report here a simple method, based on electrostatic self-assembly, for realizing bead-based single protein microarrays. We generate positively-charged surface micro-patterns on a glass substrate and used them as the template for adsorbing negatively-cha ...

We introduce a new low-temperature (280 °C) parylene-to-SiO2 bonding process with high device yield (>90%) for the fabrication and integration of high-pressure-rated microfluidic chips. Pull tests demonstrate a parylene-to-SiO2 bonding strength of 10 ± 3 M ...

Fishbones are ubiquitous in high-performance JET plasmas and are typically considered to be unimportant for scenario design. However, during recent high-performance hybrid scenario experiments, sporadic and explosive fishbone oscillations with sawtooth rec ...

Dynamic deposition of ZnO nanostructures with varying morphologies (nanorods, nanocones, nanopencils, nanosheets, etc.), diameters, lengths and aerial densities on ITO-PET substrates has been achieved using a continuous flow microreactor in which we mainta ...

Employing dielectric microspheres in a standard microscope setup is an alternative to image sub-diffraction features optically, however this method suffers from a limited field-of-view. Here, we show our microsphere-based optical super-resolution microscop ...

We present a dielectric microsphere-based super resolution optical microscope that can image a sample beyond the classical diffraction limit [1]. The super resolution imaging capability of a single microsphere normally is restricted to an area of similar t ...

PDMS-based microfluidic devices combined with lanthanide-based immunocomplexes have been successfully tested for the multiplex detection of biomarkers on cancerous tissues, revealing an enhanced sensitivity compared to classical organic dyes. ...

The analysis of the polarimetry measurements has the aim of validating models (De Marco and Segre 1972 Plasma Phys. 14 245), with a careful attention to the clarification of their limits of application. In this paper a new approximation method is introduce ...

A simple and generally applicable system was designed to detect and quantify electroactive molecules released from cells grown on paper.

Self-assembled dielectric microlenses are used for focusing of the fluorescent signal emitted from a surface-based immunoassay, performed on silane micropatterns as assay substrates, to enhance the detection signal. In our model system, a fluorescent immun ...

We present an active mixer based on the creation of virtual source-sink pairs in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) chip. Perfect mixing is achieved in only a sub-second time interval for a compact 5 μL mixing volume. This excellent performance is achieved than ...

We report on an innovative approach to on-chip detection of single fluorescently-labeled magnetic micro-particles by means of Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) arrays. Our system enables particle separation through magnetic actuation and highly sensitiv ...

SU-8 photoresist is commonly used in the field of microfabrication as structural material or for molding of microfluidic devices. One major limitation, however, is the difficulty to process partially freestanding SU-8 structures or monolithic closed caviti ...
