Due to their exceptional photovoltaic properties, metal halide perovskites (MHPs) are extensively studied for their potential applications in solar cells. In recent years, the power conversion efficiencies of MHPs-based solar cells rapidly increased from t ...

The role of alkali promoters in N-2 cleavage by metal complexes remains poorly understood despite its relevance to the industrial production of ammonia from N-2. Here we report a series of alkali bound-oxo-bridged diuranium(iii) complexes that provide a un ...

Under stress conditions, elevated levels of cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) may impair crucial cellular structures. To counteract the resulting oxidative damage, living cells are equipped with several defense mechanisms, including photoprotective fu ...

In this study visible light active iodine doped titanium dioxide samples prepared by sol-gel method were investigated. Photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XF ...

Interest in fast and easy detection of high-energy radiation (x-, gamma-rays and neutrons) is closely related to numerous practical applications ranging from biomedicine and industry to homeland security issues. In this regard, crystals of hybrid halide pe ...

Because of their excellent photoelectric properties, organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites (MHPs), such as methylammonium lead triiodide, CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI(3)), and methylammonium lead tribromide, CH3NH3PbBr3 (MAPbBr(3)), are of great interest for the ...

This study aimed at comparing the photocatalytic efficiencies of various TiO2 based photocatalysts for phenol degradation and bacteria inactivation under illumination with visible light. Commercial undoped anatase and rutile (both from Aldrich), Aeroxide P ...

Lanthanide redox reactivity remains limited to one-electron transfer reactions due to their inability to access a broad range of oxidation states. Here, we show that multielectron reductive chemistry is achieved for ytterbium by using the tripodal tris(sil ...

Based on the reported ion migration under an electric field in hybrid lead halide perovskites we have developed a bright, light-emitting electrochemical cell with CH3NH3PbBr3 single crystals directly grown on vertically aligned carbon nanotube forests as c ...

Detection and direct power conversion of high energy and high intensity ionizing radiation could be a key element in next generation nuclear reactor safety systems and space-born devices. For example, the Fukushima catastrophe in 2011 could have been large ...

The photovoltaic perovskite, methylammonium lead triiodide [CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI(3))], is one of the most efficient materials for solar energy conversion. Various kinds of chemical and physical modifications have been applied to MAPbI(3) towards better unders ...

Photocharge generation and formation of long-lived charge carriers are relevant in photosynthesis, photocatalysis, photovoltaics, and organic electronics. A better understanding of the factors that determine these processes in synthetic polymer semiconduct ...

Gamma-rays (gamma-rays), wherever present, e.g., in medicine, nuclear environment, or homeland security, due to their strong impact on biological matter, should be closely monitored. There is a need for simple, sensitive gamma-ray detectors at affordable p ...

Transition-metal-doped ZnO is considered a promising candidate for applications in spintronics. Here, we developed it novel and versatile synthetic route for obtaining impurity-free Mn-doped zinc oxide (Zn1-xMnxO) materials witha well-controlled content of ...

Water contamination due to environmental conditions and poor waste management in certain areas of the world represents a serious problem in accessing clean and safe drinking water. This problem is especially critical in electricity-poor regions, where adva ...

The local atomic structure around iron atoms of two synthetic analogues of malarial pigment product is characterized by iron K-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (XAFS). Malarial pigment, also termed hemozoin, is a condensed phase of ferriprotoporphyrin-IX dimers, and is structurally identical to the synthetic material hematin anhydride, which is also termed IS-hematin. Synthetic hemozoin analogues might serve as surrogates or models of malaria pigment for a range of fundamental laboratory me

The role and coexistence of oxidative stress (OS) and inflammation in type C hepatic encephalopathy (C HE) is a subject of intense debate. Under normal conditions the physiological levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species are controlled by the count ...

The local atomic structure around the central iron of the synthetic soluble analog of malarial pigment in acetic acid solution and with addition of chloroquine as found by X-ray absorption spectroscopy is reported. The special interest was drawn to the axi ...

There is uncertainty in understanding of the relationship between physico-chemical parameters of nanosized titanium dioxide (nano-TiO2) and its toxicity when brought into contact with living cells. This study provides a multidisciplinary experimental insig ...

Bi2WO6 is considered an effective photocatalyst, even under the visible part of the solar spectrum, and recent advances in the modification of its structure leave promise for harnessing its enhanced effectiveness. Our experimental E. coli disinfection resu ...
