Global warming is expected to lower the energy demand for heating, which would contribute to a decline in CO2 emissions. This effect may be offset by energy needs for additional cooling and by the impacts of households that reinvest the money they save on ...

Introduction The implementation of “farm to fork” solutions, taking into account the entire food value chain, is necessary to address the wide range of issues arising from agri-food systems. On the production side, organic farming is one of the main altern ...

In order to cope with the challenges of climate change, fundamental changes are needed in established systems of service provision and consumption. A key rationale for climate policy making is that it induces firms and other actors to develop new ‘climate-friendly’ technologies. The goal of this project was to study the strategies of firms, inter-firm alliances and associations in the tension field of climate policies and innovative technologies. Each of the three modules focused on a selected set of the re

In standard modelling of energy and climate policies, the speed and extent of energy efficiency improvements (EEIs) are usually assumed to be unaffected, even by policies designed to foster innovation. We model endogenous EEI in a model of the Swiss housin ...

Like many other countries, Switzerland offers various incentives to promote residential solar PV, but not all households have equal access to them. Using a microsimulation approach based on merged data from the Swiss Household Budget Survey and Household E ...

Climate change is clearly discernible in observed climate records in Switzerland. It impacts on natural systems, ecosystems, and economic sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and energy, and it affects Swiss livelihood in various ways. The observed and pr ...

Mitigation measures are a priority to avoid irreversible damages to the environment due to climate change. However, additional adaptation efforts will be required to reduce the adverse impacts of projected climate change. While mitigation is more likely to be a global effort, adaptation measures can be implemented on a national or a regional scale, providing sufficient implementation time and more topographical flexibility. An ex-ante assessment of adaptation strategies is necessary. However, it is still me

In the process of urban growth, the underground is often only addressed once all surface alternatives have been exhausted. Experience shows that this can lead to unforeseen conflicts (e.g., subsidence, groundwater pollution) and to lost opportunities (e.g. ...

Petit tour d’horizon sur le marché du logement locatif, d’où il ressort, chiffres à l’appui, que les logements d’utilité publique sont une nécessité largement sous-estimée en Suisse. Et pourtant…

In this paper, we propose setting up a fund to finance the removal of all Swiss territorial GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions from 2030. The fund will accelerate decarbonization and help reach annual net zero emissions around 2040, and then progressively remo ...

This paper aims at simulating deep decarbonization pathways for Switzerland. The analysis relies on macro-economic simulations of GEMINI-E3, a computable general equilibrium model used to assess the energy and economic impacts of a Swiss low carbon society ...

In this technical report we describe a scenario designed by the "Office fédérale de l’environnement" (Mr Romero), this scenario is detailed in table 1. In this scenario we assume that a carbon tax 1 USD2001 per ton of CO2 (i.e. 3.66 USD per ton of carbon) is enforced at the world level over the whole time horizon of the simulation (i.e. 2007-2040). 50% of the tax revenue in each country is allocated to households in the own country. The other 50% of the revenue is allocated to a fund and redistributed to de

Quel est l'intérêt pour un propriétaire foncier de céder son terrain par un DDP plutôt que par la vente, en particulier à un maître d'ouvrage d'utilité publique ?

Objectives. Models of economic voting have rarely been applied to referendum votes. We fill this gap by testing citizens’ voting behavior on environmental policy in relation to their perception of the business cycle. Thus, the study examines the personal, ...

In energy policy, efficiency improvements are conventional means for reducing industrial energy use as well as related environmental and climate externalities. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of energy efficiency improvements in reducing energy use is kno ...

This paper is a contribution to assessing the Swiss energy transition, with an emphasis on the consequences of decommissioning the nuclear power plants for the electricity market and the whole economy. We expect that increased renewable generation and dema ...

Increasingly, various sectors are affected by climate change and need to find ways to adapt with much public guidance and support. This paper examines the adaptation process of a sector that started it some time ago - Swiss Alpine tourism. It identifies ba ...

The goal of the DECARB research project is to investigate mixes of policy instruments that would allow Switzerland to respect its climate commitments and reach the net-zero emissions target by 2050. In this context, we focus on energy-related emissions which stem from four sectors, namely: power generation, transport, buildings and industry. We evaluate various policy measures, as well as combinations thereof, along several dimensions relevant to policymakers, including environmental effectiveness, economic

Four underground resources have been seen as having a long-term potential to support sustainable urban development: underground space, groundwater, geomaterials and geothermal energy. Utilization of these resources proposes a new paradigm of economic devel ...

Equity and neutrality are distinct concepts in housing taxation and weak and strong tenure neutrality should be distinguished. When a tax system is tested for those criteria, the taxes paid by landlords must be included, as they affect the rents renters pa ...
