Conventional Hall devices are widely employed to measure magnetic fields produced by millimetre sized (or larger) current-caring conductors or permanent magnets with a standard active area of about (100 um)^2. Micro-Hall sensors have recently emerged as a powerful and sensitive tool for the investigation of local magnetic field properties of the micro and nano-structures. The conventional Hall effect devices are based on non-magnetic materials (typically semiconductors e.g: AlGaAs/GaAs and InSb or semimetal

We have designed and realized a new integrated Hall structure that converts the magnetic field vector in the chip plane, into an ac signal, whose amplitude and phase correspond to the magnitude and direction of the field, respectively. It is the first Hall ...

A magnetic angle sensor is a matched combination of a permanent magnet, affixed to a rotating shaft, and a magnetic field sensor. The magnet part of the angle sensors is configured so as to create either a magnetic field with an angle-dependent component p ...

The paper deals with Hall and flux-gate magnetic field sensors consisting of integrated combination of CMOS ASICs and planar ferromagnetic components. Ferromagnetic parts are made of a soft amorphous alloy, integrated at the CMOS wafer in a post-processing ...

A magnetic field sensor for measuring a direction of a magnetic field in a plane comprises a sensing structure (4) comprising a ring-shaped well (10), a plurality of contacts (11) of equal size placed at equal distance from each other along the ring-shaped ...

We present a method to measure continuous-wave ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectra based on the core-level absorption of circularly polarized x rays. The technique is demonstrated by using a monochromatic x-ray beam incident on an yttrium-iron-garnet sam ...

Integrated Hall devices have the great advantage, over other magnetic sensors, that they can be fully fabricated by a standard CMOS process. However they are known to have a relatively large offset (i.e. residual voltage at zero magnetic field). Techniques ...

An electronic compass made of a new planar 2D micro-fluxgate sensor is presented. The magnetometer is integrated in a standard CMOS process, and uses a post-processed cross-shaped ferromagnetic amorphous core. This core is diagonally placed above a single square excitation coil common to both measurement axes. The silicon chip includes the driving and readout electronics, the excitation and pick-up coils made of the two CMOS process metallization layers. The ferromagnetic core is integrated from commerciall

NMR spectra of mammalian cells are taken using surface microprobes that are based on microfabricated planar coils. The surface microprobe resembles a miniaturized Petri dish commonly used in biological research. The diameter of the planar coils is 1 mm. Ch ...

The first commercially available teslameter with a fully integrated 3-axis Hall probe is described. The Hall probe chip contains horizontal and vertical Hall elements, analogue electronics, and a synchronisation circuit. A horizontal Hall element measures ...

A new fully integrated 2D micro-fluxgate magnetometer is presented. This magnetometer is integrated in a standard CMOS process and uses a ferromagnetic core integrated on the chip by a photolithographic post-process compatible with the integrated circuit technology. The cross-shaped ferromagnetic core is placed diagonally above four excitation coils, two for each measurement axis. A novel electronic signal extraction technique is presented. The integrated 2D magnetometer exhibits a sensitivity of 160 V/T an

A new architecture of a Hall microsystem for low-power applications is presented. The innovation in this paper lies in the re-use of the electric current for biasing of several parts in the microsystem permitting substantial reduction of the current consum ...

We present the first fully CMOS-integrated 3D Hall probe. The microsystem is developed for precise magnetic field measurements in the range from mT up to tens of tesla in the frequency range from DC to 30 kHz and with a spatial resolution of about 150 μm. ...

A Hall sensor comprises a Hall element (1; 30; 31; 60) and an amplifier (2; 32; 33). The Hall element is placed inside the amplifier so that the current flowing through the Hall element also flows through the transistors of an amplifier stage of the amplif ...

A new fully integrated 2D micro-fluxgate magnetometer is presented. This magnetometer is integrated in a standard CMOS process and uses a ferromagnetic core integrated on the chip by a photolithographic post process compatible to the integrated circuit technology. This core is placed diagonally above four excitation coils, two for each measurement axis. A novel electronic signal extraction technique is presented, whose realization results in a magnetic sensitivity of 160 V/T and a linear range of ± 50 μT. T

We report on real-time detection of single electrons inside a n-p-n bipolar junction transistor at room temperature. Single electrons injected through the base-emitter junction trigger with a high probability the avalanche breakdown of the strongly reverse ...

An innovative release method of polymer cantilevers with embedded integrated metal electrodes is presented. The fabrication is based on the lithographic patterning of the electrode layout on a wafer surface, covered by two layers of SU-8 polymer: a 10-um-t ...

we report a new single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) implemented in a commercially available high-voltage CMOS technology. The SPAD was designed with relatively low-doped layers to form p-/n- junction, instead of commonly adopted p+/n- or n+/p- structures. We used the readily available layers as given by the technology without any customization or post-processing. Careful design measures were taken to ensure planar junction breakdown. Compared with a p+/n- diode, a p-/n- SPAD has relative deep junction, wid
