There has been long-standing debate on how free charges are generated in donor:acceptor blends that are used in organic solar cells, and which are generally comprised of a complex phase morphology, where intermixed and neat phases of the donor and acceptor ...

Dye-sensitized solar cells based on nanocrystalline TiO2 have been fabricated with an amphiphilic ruthenium sensitizer NaRu(4-carboxylic acid-4'-carboxylate) (4,4'-dinonyl-2,2'-bipyridine)(NCS)2, coded as Z-907Na, and a series of non-volatile 3-methoxyprop ...

We have used a femtosecond-resolved spectroscopic technique based on the Stark effect (electromodulated differential absorption) in order to investigate free charge generation and charge drift in solar cell devices of neat conjugated polymer pBTTT and in i ...

Organic materials can tune the optical properties in layered (2D) hybrid perovskites, although their impact on photophysics is often overlooked. Here, we use transient absorption spectroscopy to probe the Dion−Jacobson (DJ) and Ruddlesden−Popper (RP) 2D pe ...

Molecular systems designed for the conversion of solar energy offer ideal models in the study of the kinetics of light-induced electron transfer at surfaces. Due to their high porosity, nanocrystalline oxide semiconductor films allow investigations of inte ...

We report on solid-state mesoscopic heterojunction solar cells employing nanoparticles (NPs) of methyl ammonium lead iodide (CH3NH3)PbI3 as light harvesters. The perovskite NPs were produced by reaction of methylammonium iodide with PbI2 and deposited onto ...

Porous semiconducting ceramics deposited on a porous metallic film acting both as catalyst and electronic collector gave large photocurrents and considerably enhanced electrooxidation currents when irradiated in the presence of small amounts of alcohol vapours. The morphological properties of these layered materials, was studied by electron (SEM, ESEM) and atomic force (AFM) microscopy in order to observe the modification in shape and size of the precursor particles because such knowledge is helpful to the

The high molar extinction coefficient heteroleptic ruthenium dye, NaRu(4,4'-bis(5-(hexylthio)thiophen-2-yl)-2,2'-bipyridine) (4-carboxylic acid-4'-carboxylate-2,2'-bipyridine) (NCS)(z), exhibits certified 5% electric power conversion efficiency at AM 1.5 solar irradiation (100 mWcm(-2)) in a solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell using 2,2',7,7'-tetrakis-(N,N-dipmethoxyphenylamine)-9,9'-spirobifluorene (spiro-MeOTAD) as the organic hole-transporting material. This demonstration elucidates a class of photovol

The dye coumarin 343 (C343) adsorbed on the surface of ZrO2 nanoparticles in aq. solns. was used to study the solvation dynamics close to these surfaces. The time-resolved Stokes shift was measured by femtosecond frequency-resolved upconversion. The absorption and fluorescence spectra of C343 in water and adsorbed on ZrO2 were analyzed. The solvation functions of C343 in water and adsorbed on ZrO2 nanoparticles were detd. [on SciFinder (R)]

Efficient and stable mesoscopic dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) introducing a low-viscosity binary ionic liquid (1-propyl-3-methyl-imidazolium iodide (PMII) and 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetracyanoborate (EMIB(CN)4)) electrolyte in combination with a new high-molar-extinction-coefficient ruthenium complex, Ru(2,2′-bipyridine-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid)(4,4′-bis(2-(4-tert-butyloxy -phenyl)ethenyl) −2,2′-bipyridine) (NCS)2, are demonstrated. The dependence of photovoltaic performance, charge transport and el

A new heteroleptic polypyridyl ruthenium complex (see Figure) with a high molar extinction coefficient has been synthesized. The complex is demonstrated to be a highly efficient, stable sensitizer for nanocrystalline dye-sensitized solar cells. For a newly ...

PBDTTPD is a conjugated polymer with high power conversion efficiency if used in organic solar cells together with fullerene derivatives. We have investigated forthe first time the excited state dynamics of pristine PBDTTPD thin film as well as the ultrafa ...

Chemical doping of inorganic–organic hybrid perovskites is an effective way of improving the performance and operational stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here we use 5-ammonium valeric acid iodide (AVAI) to chemically stabilize the structure of ...

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) have achieved impressive conversion efficiencies for solar energy of over 11% with an electrolyte that contains triiodide/iodide as a redox couple. Although triiodide/iodide redox couples work efficiently in DSCs, they suf ...

Solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells currently suffer from issues such as inadequate nanopore filling, low conductivity and crystallization of hole-transport materials infiltrated in the mesoscopic TiO2 scaffolds, leading to low performances. Here we rep ...

We present cw and pulsed EPR experiments on V4+ in the rutile and anatase phases of TiO2. For the rutile phase, the cw data confirm earlier results, but the relaxation data are different from those previously reported. No earlier results for V4+ in the unreduced pure anatase phase exist. We show that a simple point-charge model can be used to interpret the values of the g tensors, but that models considering only nearest neighbors will give erroneous results. We conclude that the observed V4+ is substitutio

A series of five organic donor-π-bridge-acceptor (D-π-A) sensitizers is investigated within the context of their photoinduced charge-transfer properties. Thereby, the focus is set on the impact of structural modifications of the molecular architecture on t ...
