The intensification of fast exothermic reactions can be achieved by using microstructured reactors (MSR) which provide improved mass & heat transfer rates leading to higher overall reaction kinetics. But for highly exothermic reactions the heat evacuation becomes not efficient enough and unwanted hot spots are formed. In this study, first the mixing in MSR is quantified for different geometries and then temperature profiles are measured using a novel quantitative IR-thermometry method. The results are fitte

Structured filamentous zeolitic materials were prepd. by depositing ZSM-5 coatings on glass fiber supports. A homogeneous coverage of the support filaments was obtained by prepg. MFI crystals in F-contg. media at neutral pH. The samples were characterized by BET, XRD and SEM. The gas-phase partial oxidn. of benzene by N2O to phenol was investigated as a function of the chem. compn. of the support and the ZSM-5 synthesis procedure. The fluorinated zeolitic materials demonstrated the highest activity (>20% be

Hydrogen prodn. from toluene by steam reforming, partial oxidn. and autothermal reforming was studied by step-response method in a tubular fixed-bed reactor, at temps. between 550 Deg-700 Deg. Nickel in the form of a wire grid is a valuable catalyst, whereas an addn. of palladium acts as a promoter for water formation. [on SciFinder (R)]

The structure sensitivity of a liquid-phase 1-hexyne hydrogenation was studied using monodispersed nonsupported Pd nanoparticles of 6, 8, 11, 13, and 14 nm diameter. The particles were prepared via a reverse microemulsion water/AOT/isooctane. The size was ...

The integrated approach for the design of solid catalysts for process intensification is presented addressing simultaneously different levels of scale and complexity involved in the development starting from the molecular/nano-scale of the active phase opt ...

A review. This review addresses the catalytic reactions performed in microstructured reactors, which are more and more recognized in recent years as a novel approach for chem. and chem. process industry. They are particularly suited for highly exothermic a ...

The adsorption of MeOH on the (110) surface of g-alumina was studied using both ab initio and d. functional theory quantum chem. methods. A [Al3O9H10]+ cluster model comprising one tetrahedral and 2 octahedral Al cations were used to describe the surface and the mechanism of adsorption of MeOH. This has allowed one to rationalize the stable structures of adsorbate and the mode of bonding. The IR frequency shifts between the gas phase and the adsorbed species were also calcd. and they exhibit good agreement

Hydrodynamics of gas-liquid systems has been studied by high-speed camera. The flow patterns of CO2/water-based fluids were investigated in three glass microreactors having different geometries. Four main regimes were observed: bubbly, slug, slug-annular and annular flow. The forces being responsible for the pattern formation were quantified using dimensionless numbers: Bond (Bo), Reynolds (Re), Weber (We) and Capillary (Ca) numbers. The study showed that the interfacial tension and the gas inertia are the

Gas-phase alkylation of catechol with methanol on g-alumina and modified g-alumina catalysts is studied exptl. By limiting the conversion of X < 0.3, the formation of polymethylated species can be avoided and only the three isomers guaiacol, 3-methylcatechol and 4-methylcatechol are obsd. Optimizing the catalyst compn. and the reaction conditions, a selectivity of 0.75 for the industrially most valuable product 3-methylcatechol can be obtained. [on SciFinder (R)]

This paper describes synthesis of Pd-containing catalysts of Suzuki cross-coupling based on amino-functionalized hyper-cross-linked polystyrene at variation of Pd precursor nature (PdCl2, PdCl2(CH3CN)(2), or PdCl2(PhCN)(2)). The investigation of the influe ...

An innovative way to fix preformed nanocrystalline TiO2 on low-density polyethylene film (LDPE-TiO2) is presented. The LDPE-TiO2 film was able to mediate the complete photodiscoloration of Orange II using about seven times less catalyst than a TiO2 suspens ...

We report the successful application of a templating approach employing ordered mesoporous carbon to the synthesis of BiVO4, Bi2Mo3O12, and Bi0.85V0.55Mo0.45O4 and the performance of these materials as catalysts for the oxidation of propene to acrolein. Or ...

Conjugated kinetic and thermodynamic modeling is suggested as a suitable approach to identify a novel process window (NPW) for the intensification of slow reversible reactions. The aqueous Kolbe-Schmitt synthesis of beta-resorcylic acid is taken as a model ...

Woven fibrous materials are proposed as structured catalysts for three-phase catalytic reactors. The design of a catalytic bed arranged as a plate bubble column is discussed. The hydrodynamic parameters, like pressure drop and liq. hold-up were found to depend on the woven structure of the fibrous layers and are shown to be a function of the distance between the threads in the fibers.

A one-step reaction scheme is proposed for prepn. of 2-methyl-1-naphthol from 1-tetralone. The process includes two fixed-bed reactors in line or a single reactor with a double-layered or mixed catalytic bed. The main advantage of the proposed scheme is to avoid the intermediate sepn. and purifn. steps. [on SciFinder (R)]

This work is addressed to the phenomenon of catalyst deactivation taking place during the repeated uses in the reaction of Suzuki-Miyaura (S-M) cross-coupling, which is widely applied in industry for C-C bond formation. Ligandless catalysts based on Pd(0) ...

Fast temp. cycling of catalytic reactions using microreactors is discussed. [on SciFinder (R)]

This chapter deals with the effects of microfluidics on preparative chemistry processes. The main characteristic features of microstructured reactors (MSR) are their high surface area-to-volume ratio in the range from 10000 to 50000 m2/m3. Various paramete ...
