Two spiro-MeTAD compounds (1 and 2) were synthesized, characterized by experimental and quantum mechanical methods, and used as hole transporting materials (HTMs) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The new compounds differ from spiro-OMeTAD only by the pres ...

We report on the effect of substituting the two tetrabutyl ammonium counter ions of the standard N719 dye by sodium ions on the performance and stability of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The disodium analogue of N719 in conjunction with a non-volatile ...

The performance of perovskite solar cells is highly dependent on the fabrication method; thus, controlling the growth mechanism of perovskite crystals is a promising way towards increasing their efficiency and stability. Herein, a multi-cation halide compo ...

Carbon-based perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) are emerging as low-cost stable photovoltaics. However, their power conversion efficiency (PCE) still lags behind that of devices based on Au or Ag as the current collector. Here, we introduced an innovative mod ...

Strong electron-donating functionality is desirable for many organic donor-pi-bridge-acceptor (D-pi-A) dyes. Strategies for increasing the electrondonating strength of common nitrogen-based donors include planarization of nitrogen substituents and the use ...

Though Cu2O has demonstrated high performance as a photocathode for solar water splitting, its band gap is too large for efficient use as the bottom cell in tandem configurations. Accordingly, copper chalcopyrites have recently attracted much attention for ...

Water oxidation is a key chemical reaction, central to both biological photosynthesis and artificial solar fuel synthesis strategies. Despite recent progress on the structure of the natural catalytic site, and on inorganic catalyst function, determining th ...

We report new bis-cyclometalated cationic indium(III) complexes ((CN)-N-boolean AND)(2)Ir(CN-tert-Bu)(2) that have tert-butyl isocyanides as neutral auxiliary ligands and 2-phenylpyridine or 2-(4'-fluoropheny1)-R-pyridines (where R is 4-methoxy, ...

Starting from 2,2-bipyridine dicarboxylic acid, two new (D--A)(2) sensitizers, including m-DA with the carboxyl anchoring group substituted meta to the donor-bridge moiety and p-DA with a para-substituted anchoring group, were synthesized in order to evalu ...

We report a high molar extinction coefficient heteroleptic polypyridyl ruthenium sensitizer, featuring an electron-rich 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene unit in its ancillary ligand. A nanocrystalline titania film stained with this sensitizer shows an improved o ...

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have immense potential for high power conversion efficiency with an ease of fabrication procedure. The fundamental understanding of interfacial kinetics in PSCs is crucial for further improving of their photovoltaic performanc ...

Photoelectrochemieal water splitting half reactions on semiconducting photoelectrodes have received much attention but efficient overall water splitting driven by a single photoelectrode has remained elusive due to stringent electronic and thermodynamic pr ...

Nanoclay minerals play a promising role as additives in the liquid electrolyte to form a gel electrolyte for quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells, because of the high chemical stability, unique swelling capability, ion exchange capacity, and theolo ...

The optoelectronic properties of transparent nanocrystalline TiO2 films were modified by the incorporation of a low level of Ga3+ or Y3+ cations. After optimizing their relative concentration level, we were able to increase in a noticeable manner the power ...

A series of polyene-diphenylaniline based organic dyes (coded as D5, D7, D9 and D11) have been reported for the application in ionic liquid electrolyte based dye-sensitized solar cells. The effects of substitution of organic dyes on the photovoltaic perfor ...

Six new donor-pi spacer-acceptor (D-pi-A) organic sensitizers based on the 2-quinolinone moiety as acceptor and anchoring groups were synthesized and tested for their performance in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The systematic tuning of acceptor stre ...

Fluorine-doped tin-oxide (FTO) transparent conducting substrates, for use in cobalt bis(bipyridine pyrazole) complex based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs), were compared using the conventional TiCl4 treatment with conformal TiO2 blocking layers formed by ...

We study hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) photoelectrodes for water splitting by examining the fate of photogenerated holes. Using H2O2 as an efficient hole scavenger, we collect all holes that arrive at the electrode/electrolyte interface. This provides the ability ...

Optimizing the morphology of metal halide perovskite films is an important way to improve the performance of solar cells(1) when these materials are used as light harvesters(2), because film homogeneity is correlated with photovoltaic performance(3). Many ...

The semiconducting materials used for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting must withstand the corrosive nature of the aqueous electrolyte over long time scales in order to be a viable option for large scale solar energy conversion. Here we demonstrat ...
