Monitoring biomarkers and injected theranostic nanomaterials in tissues and organs plays a pivotal role in numerous medical applications ranging from cancer diagnostics to drug delivery. Scanning electrochemical microscopy has been demonstrated as a powerf ...

Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry is used to detect intact whole exosomes, yielding exosomal fingerprints within minutes. This rapid exosome detection approach is proposed as a potential tool for cancer studies. M ...

Two-phase liquid system IA(w)jIX(o) comprising the interface between the aqueous solution (w) of uni-univalent electrolyte IA and an organic solvent solution (o) of a uni-univalent electrolyte IX with the common cation I+ is considered as a simple model of a liquid-membrane ion-selective electrode (ISE). Taking into account the electroneutrality and mass balance conditions, the equilibrium Galvani potential difference (pd) between the aqueous and organic phases, ¢o wO ) O(w) - O(o), is calculated numericall

The adsorption of ions at the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) is primarily controlled by the potential distribution across the interface, which in turn is influenced by the adsorption process. In the present paper, we simulat ...

An all-vanadium dual circuit redox flow battery is an electrochemical energy storage system capable to function as a conventional battery, but also to produce hydrogen and perform desulfurization when surplus of electricity is available by chemical dischar ...

A highly sensitive method based on mass-barcoded gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and immunomagnetic separation has been developed for multiplex allergy diagnosis by MALDI mass spectrometry in a component-resolved manner. Different analytical probes were prepare ...

Melittin, a membrane-active peptide with antimicrobial activity, was investigated at the interface formed between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) supported on a metallic electrode. Ion-transfer voltammetry showed well-defined semi-reversible t ...

Ionic transport in charged conical nanopores is known to give rise to ion current rectification. The present study shows that the rectification direction can be inverted when using electrolyte solutions at very low ionic strengths. To elucidate these pheno ...

The formation and the dissociation of metal hydrides are key steps within the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) pathway for photochemical water splitting, but also impacts a wide range of other catalytic, industrial, and biochemical reactions. Herein, we d ...

For the sustainable development of the renewable hydrogen sector, alkaline electrolysis appears to be a technology of choice. Nevertheless, despite its long history that showed its reliability in the industrial field and despite the traditional belief from ...

The distribution of electrolytes in an electric field usually relies on theories based on the Poisson-Boltzmann formalism. These models predict that, in the case of a metallic electrode, ionic charges screen the electrode potential, leading to concentratio ...

An electrochemical sensor is described for the determination of L-dopa (levodopa; 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine). An inkjet-printed carbon nanotube (IJPCNT) electrode was modified with manganese dioxide microspheres by drop-casting. They coating was character ...

This article aims to present the redox aspects of lithium-ion batteries both from a thermodynamic and from a conductivity viewpoint. We first recall the basic definitions of the electrochemical potential of the electron, and of the Fermi level for a redox ...

When a metallic nanoparticle (NP) comes in close contact with an electrode, its Fermi level equilibrates with that of the electrode if their separation is less than the cut-off distance for electron tunnelling. In the absence of chemical reactions in solut ...

In vivo cell microenvironments are characterized by gradients of soluble molecules, particularly oxygen, whose levels depend on the distance from blood vessels and cellular metabolic activity. In pathological conditions, oxygen levels often decrease, leading to hypoxia and steeper concentration gradients. Standard in vitro cultures provide homogeneous conditions that poorly replicate the in vivo environment. This work presents the microfabrication of devices that generate cell culture microenvironments char

Nanomaterials have been widely used to assist laser desorption ionization of biomolecules for mass spectrometry analysis. Compared with classical matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization, strategies based on nanomaterial-assisted ionization generate a c ...

A surface-based approach is presented to study the interactions of A beta 12-28-Cys assembled on gold surfaces with Congo red (CR) and a beta-sheet breaker (BSB) peptide. The various aspects of the peptide film have been examined using different electroche ...

A linear array of eight individual addressable microelectrodes has been developed in order to perform highthroughput scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) imaging of large sample areas in contact regime. Similar to previous reports, the soft microelec ...

Proteolysis with proteases preloaded within nanopores of porous material is a very fast process, where proteins can be digested in minutes compared to the conventional bulk enzyme reactions taking place over hours. To model this surprising phenomenon, a mo ...

Not just a solvent anymore: CO2 reduction under supercritical conditions was achieved in a biphasic water–supercritical CO2 system using an aqueous soluble catalyst (see picture). The introduction of such an interface provides a suitable reaction medium wh ...
