In this paper, we consider the use of object duplicate detection for the propagation of geotags from a small set of images with location names (IPTC) to a large set of non-tagged images. The motivation behind this idea is that images of individual location ...

Tagging in online social networks is very popular these days, as it facilitates search and retrieval of multimedia content. However, noisy and spam annotations often make it difficult to perform an efficient search. Users may make mistakes in tagging and i ...

High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging is able to capture a wide range of luminance values, closer to what the human visual system can perceive. It is believed by many that HDR is a technology that will revolutionize TV and cinema industry similar to how color t ...

High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging is one of the technologies that are changing photo, TV, and film industries. The popularity and full public adoption of HDR content is however hindered by the lack of standards in evaluation of quality, file formats, and co ...

Recent advances in high dynamic range (HDR) capturing and display technologies attracted a lot of interest to HDR imaging. Many issues that are considered as being resolved for conventional low dynamic range (LDR) images pose new challenges in HDR context. ...

In this paper, we analyze our graph-based approach for 2D and 3D object duplicate detection in still images. A graph model is used to represent the 3D spatial information of the object based on the features extracted from training images so that an explici ...

In the last decade, DNA has been increasingly investigated as an alternative medium for cold data storage, presenting several advantages over standard hard drives such as a higher density, longer lifespan and lower energy consumption. However, such coding ...

This paper introduces the VISNET II DVC codec. This co-dec achieves very high RD performance thanks to the efficient combination of many state-of-the-art coding tools into a fully practical video codec. Experimental results show that the proposed DVC codec ...

Development of objective quality metrics that can reliably predict perceived quality of 3D video sequences is challenging. Various 3D objective metrics have been proposed, but PSNR is still widely used. Several studies have shown that PSNR is strongly cont ...

In this paper, we report a study evaluating rate-distortion performance between JPEG 2000, AVC/H.264 High 4:4:4 Intra and HD Photo. A set of ten high definition color images with different spatial resolutions has been used. Both the PSNR and the perceptual ...

JPEG Trust is a new international standard that responds to the pressing need of assessing trust in digital media assets. JPEG Trust provides a comprehensive framework addressing key elements such as provenance, authenticity, integrity, and copyright decla ...

Scalability is a powerful concept for adaptive video content delivery to many end users having heterogeneous and dynamic characteristics of networks and devices. In order to maximize users' quality of experience by selecting appropriate combinations of mul ...

Many images uploaded to social networks are related to travel, since people consider traveling to be an important event in their life. However, a significant amount of travel images on the Internet lack proper geographical annotations or tags. In many cases ...

In this paper, we review the on-going JPSearch standardization activity. Its goal is to provide a standard for interoperability for image search and retrieval systems. More specifically, JPSearch aims at defining the interfaces and protocols for data excha ...

In this paper, we present an algorithm for the detection of local illumination changes due to shadows in real world sequences. The algorithm is designed to be able to work when camera, illumination and scene’s characteristics are unknown. This feature is highly desirable for a wide range of applications, such as video production, immersive gaming, and visual surveillance. The algorithm operates as follows. First colour information is exploited, then multiple constraints from physical knowledge are embedded
