The main objective of the ITER ECRH Upper Launcher (UL) is to control magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) activity: sawtooth oscillations and neoclassical tearing modes. 170GHz RF beams are oriented and focused to obtain a maximum overlapping of the waists of all the beams throughout the deposition location range in the plasma. The steering of the beams is done using 8 independent steering mirrors (SM) placed in the front par t of each one of the four dedicated por t plugs. Accurate and rapid control of the SMs for d

An Electron Cyclotron (EC) Heating and Current Drive (HCD) system will be installed in the EU DEMO Tokamak to provide plasma heating and stabilization by coupling up to 130 MW of mm-wave power into specific regions of the plasma. The mm -waves will be gene ...

Each of the 4 ITER Electron Cyclotron Heating Upper Launcher (ECHUL) features 8 transmission lines used to inject microwave power of up to 1.31 MW (at the source) per line, into the plasma at 170 GHz. The microwaves are guided from the gyrotrons via (empty ...

The aim of the ITER electron cyclotron heating and current drive upper launcher (UL) is to control magneto-hydrodynamic activity in the plasma., in particular neo-classical tearing modes, requiring a narrow and peaked deposition of the radio-frequency (rf) power.

Each of the 4 ITER Electron Cyclotron Heating Upper Launcher (ECHUL) features 8 transmission lines used to inject microwave power of up to 1.31 MW per line (at the FCS diamond window), into the plasma at a frequency of 170 GHz. The millimetre waves are gui ...

The DEMOnstration fusion power plant (DEMO) is being developed within EUROfusion and one of the challenges is the integration of all the systems into a fusion reactor by designs that meet strict design criteria required for safe and reliable long-term reac ...

Presently, a remote steering (RS) antenna [C.P. Moeller, A method of remotely steering a microwave beam launched from a highly overmoded corrugated waveguide, in: Proceedings of the 23rd International Conference on IRMMW, Colchester, UK, 1998] is envisione ...

The EUropean DEMOnstration power plant (EU-DEMO) project, a EUROfusion initiative, seeks to advance fusion power technology by developing a reliable Electron Cyclotron (EC) heating and current drive system capable of delivering up to 130 MW of auxiliary he ...

The ITER ECRH upper port antenna (or launcher) will be used to drive current locally for stabilising the neoclassical tearing mode (NTM)) by depositing mm-wave power inside of the island which forms on the q=3/2 or 2 rational magnetic flux surfaces and con ...

This paper presents the multiple set of requirements for the ITER magnetic diagnostic systems and the current status of the various R&D activities performed by the EU partners. ...
