Due to their relatively high tensile strength and dense matrix, UHPFRCs have proven to be a highly effective building material for both strengthening existing reinforced concrete structures and constructing new ones. In both cases, the use of fasteners is ...

Following the significant improvement in their properties during the last decade, Distributed Fiber Optics sensing (DFOs) techniques are nowadays implemented for industrial use in the context of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). While these techniques ha ...

For assessment of existing reinforced-concrete bridges, only few rules and recommendations are available, and engineers meanwhile apply design codes for new bridges to evaluate the fatigue safety of existing bridges leading to non-realistic approaches and ...

Due to the important direct and indirect costs of the intervention, more detailed examination methods based on data as obtained from monitoring is suggested. This paper reports on an ongoing study to examine the fatigue safety of one standard bridge type, ...

This paper focuses on modelling of structural response of RC cantilever beams retrofitted with a thin layer of Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced cement-based Composite (UHPFRC). The complex cracking phenomenon of the resulting RC-UHPFRC composite sys ...

UHPFRC (Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composite), complemented by reinforcement steel bars, is used for the rehabilitation and strengthening of existing bridges by adding a layer of UHPFRC, often on top of the bridge deck slab in rei ...

This paper investigates experimentally and numerically the biaxial flexural behaviour of thin circular slab specimens made of Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRC). The circular slab specimens represent an external tensile ...

The research progress of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced cementitious (UHPFRC) composite material composite steel bridge decks was summarized and analyzed from three aspects, including the material selection for the high resilience composite layer, ...

Ultra-High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRC) offers several advantages compared to concrete, notably due to the strain hardening behavior under tensile actions. Structures made of this composite material are lightweight and highl ...

Typical structural health monitoring systems employ limited numbers of sensors capable of measuring discrete local behaviours. However, practical challenges arise as these sensor arrays cannot cover all local areas of interest. To address this challenge, t ...

This article focuses on the characterization of the early-age properties of Ultra-High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRC), which is becoming popular for designing lightweight and durable structures. Due to the large proportion of ...

Long term monitoring of structural elements of a 115 years old riveted railway bridge structure of high value as cultural heritage has been conducted. Monitored values were exploited by Rainflow analysis and served as the basis for the fatigue safety verification. As the locations of measurements are generally not identical with the cross sections of verification, measured strains were translated to the relevant verification cross section by means of factors that were determined by structural analysis. Usin

With the occurrence of higher and more frequent axle loads on roads, in particular bridge deck slabs are more severely solicitated by fatigue loading. To avoid heavy interventions for strengthening of bridge deck slabs, an improved building material is use ...

Investigations on the fatigue strength of steel reinforcement bars (rebars) mainly involves fatigue tests with hot rolled (HR) and cold worked (CW) steels. However, in the last few decades, HR and CW rebars were replaced by quenched and selftempered (QST) ...

An emerging technique for strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs is to add a layer of Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) with steel rebars as an external tensile flexural reinforcement. This paper presents the results of an experimental campaign to study the structural response of composite UHPFRC-RC beams. The resistance of the UHPFRC layer subjected to combined tension and bending controls the structural response. The results show that the UHPFRC layer increases the member

Combined passive ultrasonic (US) stress wave [better known as acoustic emission (AE)] and active US stress wave monitoring has been shown to provide a more holistic picture of ongoing fracture processes, damage progression, as well as slowly occurring agin ...

The fatigue behavior of a reinforced UHPFRC (Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious composite) T-shaped beam under four-point bending is investigated. The beam was subjected to a fatigue loading range equal to 49% of the static resistance and ...

This two-part article reports on the renewal and adaptation of the fixed railway track in the heavily frequented underground train station at Zurich Airport. The fixed track built in 1980 had reached the service duration predicted by the system provider an ...

To document an individual's longitudinal construction of risk is a logistically intensive task. To identify a logistically feasible approach, we review existing agent-based experience documentation approaches within the context of a specified risk source - performance of a transportation network. The most promising documentation method, GPS tracking, was then tested in a four month pilot study This study found that while GPS tracking documents an individual's activities in extreme detail, the psychological
