Conventional infrastructure management typically involves replacing bridges at the end of their intended service duration or when significant structural deficiencies arise, resulting in high costs and environmental impacts. Novel structural-strengthening methods using ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composite (UHPFRC) have allowed the preservation of hundreds of bridges. Their service duration has been extended, and the performance has been improved to achieve the same performance as a

The hydration of an ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) paste with a water to cement ratio of 0.18 was followed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) alongside more classical techniques for hydration kinetics, and microstructu ...

The new Swiss Codes for engineering of existing structures. The Schweizerische Ingenieur- und Architektenverein (Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects) introduces the series of Codes SIA 269 as a tool that will provide guidance for their members to sig ...

Fatigue evolution during the flaw initiation phase and under high cycle fatigue conditions is described at the level of the representative volume element by the probability that this element fails in a given period of time under given stimulus. This probab ...

Renewal of reinforced concrete bridges by means of UHPFRC – Experiences from 400+ applications. Ultra-High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious composite UHPFRC is a novel building material that is characterized by high mechanical strength and durabil ...

Infrastructure managers of medium size bridge stocks are being faced with the task of approximating short, mid to long term financial needs for their infrastructure. This task is particularly demanding due to the lack of relevant information, in particular ...

This article gives an overview of two recent research projects conducted at the Division for Maintenance and Safety of Structures (MCS) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne, Switzerland (EPFL) and summarizes the results of the 3rd Inter ...

Ultra-High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRC) has been developed to design lightweight structures and enhance existing designs. As the environmental footprint of the construction industry must be significantly reduced, the potenti ...

Structural application of impermeable, tensile strain hardening UHPFRC (Ultra-High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced-Cementitious Composite) follows two fundamental concepts: 1) Rehabilitation and strengthening of existing bridges by adding a layer of UHPFRC, a ...
