beta-Tricalcium Phosphate (beta-TCP), one of the most used bone graft substitutes, may contain up to 5 wt% foreign phase according to standards. Typical foreign phases include beta-calcium pyrophosphate (beta-CPP) and hydroxyapatite (HA). Currently, the ef ...

One of the most widely used materials for bone graft substitution is β-Tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP;β- Ca3(PO4)2). beta-TCP is typically produced by sintering in air or vacuum. During this process, evaporation of phosphorus ...

Various methods have been developed to synthesize C-S-H; however, these methods have only allowed for the successful production of pure-phase C-S-H with Ca:Si of 1.5 or less. Attempts to form higher Ca:Si ratios by these methods gives C-S-H (Ca:Si 1.5 or l ...

Ceramic surface microstructuring is a rapidly growing field with a variety of applications in tribology, wetting, biology, and so on. However, there are limitations to large-area microstructuring and fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) micro free forms. ...

Precipitated oxalates are often nanostructured and can be used as precursors for nanostructured oxides for different applications. The modification of the particle shape and nanostructures of both copper and cobalt oxalates has been demonstrated using poly ...

A thermodynamic model is developed for the precipitation of copper oxalate from aqueous solutions of copper nitrate and sodium oxalate in a small well-mixed batch reactor. This model is then used to explain the discrepancy between experimental pH evolution ...

We studied systematically aqueous suspensions of amorphous well-characterized silica particles by potentiometric titration, electrophoretic mobility, and time-resolved light scattering. Their charging behavior and aggregation rate constants were measured a ...

This work focuses on the development of a facile and scalable wet milling method followed by heat treatment to prepare fluorinated and/or N-doped TiO2 nanopowders with improved photocatalytic properties under visible light. The structural and electronic pr ...

Background: Aerosol-mediated delivery of nano-based therapeutics to the lung has emerged as a promising alternative for treatment and prevention of lung diseases. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have attracted significant attention for ...

Use of freeze granulated powders is successfully used as an industrially viable alternative to loose powder sintering for transparent polycrystalline alumina (PCA). Freeze granulation with narrow granule size distribution was realized after suspension cond ...

Over the past few years, engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) have penetrated nearly every sector of modern life and their broad-scale use is steadily and rapidly increasing. The (expected) elevated levels of ENMs in the environment raise concerns with regard t ...

The prediction of implant behavior in vivo by the use of easy-to-perform in vitro methods is of great interest in biomaterials research. Simulated body fluids (SBFs) have been proposed and widely used to evaluate the bone-bonding ability of implant materia ...

Grain-boundary character distributions (GBCDs) were determined for spark plasma sintered Y- and La-doped aluminas prepared at temperatures between 1450 degrees C and 1600 degrees C. La doping leads to grain boundaries that adopt (0001) orientations 3.7 tim ...

This study aimed to develop a dense protective coating of Mn 1.7 Cu 1.3 O 4 spinel on SOC interconnects using inkjet printing. The work focused on formulating a well‐dispersed, stable, and agglomerate‐free ink to obtain a dense, uniform, and full surface coating layer. Achieving a dense layer, requires an ink with high powder content. However, highly loaded inks increase the risk of agglomeration and nozzle blocking. This makes the colloidal stability and dispersion properties critical. Mn 1.7 Cu 1.3 O 4 co

Nanopowders are continuously under investigation as they open new perspectives in numerous fields. There are two main challenges to stimulating their development: sufficient low-cost, high throughput synthesis methods which lead to a production with well-d ...

The invention relates to an improved process for the production of powders of an inhalable medicament by crystallization from a supersaturated fluid containing said medicament, the method comprising passing along a tubular reactor(a) a segmented flow of that fluid comprised of discrete volumes or(b) a fluid mixture being separated by discrete volumes of a separating fluid which is substantially immiscible with said fluid, characterized in that the crystallization is initiated by application of ultrasound.

The exact mechanism of creep resistance enhancement due to yttrium (Y) doping in a-alumina is still subject to speculation, although it is known that dopants segregate strongly to grain boundaries. The current work applies atomistic simulation techniques t ...

Effect of Fe3+ on the precipitation of synthetic calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H) under controlled conditions has been evaluated. Using extremely basic either initial calcium nitrate or sodium silicate solutions (pH > 11), incipient formation of ferrihydr ...

Ti-foils are currently used as a spallation target material to produce radioisotopes for physics research at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. However, radioisotope production rates often decrease over time due to material degradation from high operation temper ...

Provided herein is a composition for use as a hardening regulator, e.g. hardening accelerator or hardening retarder, for building materials, as well as methods for producing thereof. The composition is characterized by a biphasic nature in which solid calc ...
