This paper focuses on commonalities and differences between the two mixed-signal hardware description languages VHDL-AMS and Verilog-AMS in the case of modeling heterogeneous or multi-discipline systems. The paper has two objectives. The first one consists ...

This paper describes ModelLib, a web-based platform for collecting models from different domains (e.g. electrical, mechanical) and levels of abstractions. Use cases for this tool are presented, which show how it can support the design~process of complex AM ...

An electro-thermal model of a Rogowski Coil sensor system is here described. A co-design methodology between VHDL-AMS and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has been used for modeling the entire system. The proposed modeling strategy uses geometrical FEA to com ...

SystemC is emerging as a de-facto standard for digital system design. Since embedded systems include more and more heterogeneous components (e.g., analog/RF front-ends, processor cores, embedded software, digital hardware, sensors, actuators), the need for ...

SystemC AMS extensions introduce new language constructs for the design of embedded analog/mixed-signal systems. This paper presents the novel modeling language for analog and mixed-signal functions that supports design and modeling of telecommunications, automotive and imaging sensor applications at various levels of abstraction. A simple example illustrates how these new features facilitate a design refinement methodology for functional modeling, architecture exploration and virtual prototyping of embedde

SystemC-AMS currently offers modelling formalisms with specialised solvers mainly focussing on the electrical domain. There is a need to improve its modelling capabilities concerning conservative continuous time systems involving the interaction of several ...

Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) are heterogeneous by nature as they may integrate digital, analog, RF hardware as well as software components or non electrical parts such as sensors or actuators. The increasing level of complexity for designing SoCs in a reasonable amount of time and resources asks, among other capabilities, for powerful modeling and simulation means. SystemC is emerging as a de facto standard for digital system design, but is still lacking a standard support of continuous-time and mixed discrete-ev

This paper focuses on the electro-thermal modeling of an electrical current sensor, based on the Rogowski Coil transducer. We exploit the multi-domain capabilities of VHDL-AMS together with geometrical Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to create a time-depende ...

This chapter presents a modeling methodology for the top-down/bottom-up design of RF systems based on systematic use of VHDL-AMS models. The model interfaces are parameterizable and pin-accurate. The designer can choose to parameterize the models using performance specifications or device parameters back-annotated from the transistor-level implementation. The abstraction level used for the description of the respective analog/digital component behavior has been chosen to achieve a good trade-off between acc

In this chapter, we present the capabilities of the VHDL-AMS hardware description language for developing compact models. After a brief description of the VHDL-AMS language, we present two meaningful case studies on design oriented models of MOSFET. The first study focuses on the EKV v2.6 MOSFET model and takes into account the thermo-electrical interaction and the extrinsic aspects. The EKV v2.6 model uses linearization with respect to surface potential, resulting in physically well-based expressions for t

Applications of Specification and Design Languages for SoCs includes a selection of the best contributions to the Forum on Specification and Design Languages held in 2005 (FDL'05). Since its inception in 1998, FDL has established itself as the premier European forum to exchange experiences and learn about new trends in the application of languages and models for the specification and modeling of electronic systems. This book provides detailed insights into recent works dealing with a large spectrum of issue

There is a need to improve the modelling capabilities of SystemC-AMS concerning conservative continuous time systems involving the interaction of several physical domains and the interaction with digital control components. Bond graphs unify the description of multi-domain systems by modelling the energy flow between the electrical and non-electrical components. They integrate well with block diagrams describing the signal processing part of a system. It is proposed to develop an extension to the current Sy

This paper presents a new VHDL-AMS behavioral model of an electrochemical cell suitable for the design of VLSI bio-chips. Existing models are mainly equivalent circuit macromodels using electrical primitives, which hardly fit the actual behavior of biosens ...

This chapter describes ModelLib, a web-based platform for collecting models from different domains (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical) and levels of abstractions (e.g., system, circuit, or device level). Use cases for this tool are presented, which show how it can support the design process of complex heterogeneous AMS systems through better reuse of existing models for tasks like architecture exploration, system validation, and creation of more and more elaborated models of the system. The

This paper presents a modelling methodology for the top-down/bottom-up design of RF systems based on systematic use of VHDL-AMS models. The model interfaces are parameterizable and pin-accurate. The designer can choose to parameterize the models using perf ...

SystemC will become more and more important for the design of digital circuits from the specification down to the RT-Level. Complex systems often contain analog components. This paper introduces concepts for the extension of the SystemC methodology for the specification and design of analog and mixed signal systems. The concepts will be illustrated on a telecommunication system including digital hard- and software, analog filter and an analog environment.

VHDL 1076.1 denotes an effort to enhance the IEEE VHDL 1076 standard with analog and mixed-signal capabilities. In November 1995, the development of the extensions was nearing completion. An IEEE ballot to adopt the extensions as a new IEEE standard should happen in Q1 97. The author provides an overview of the proposed extensions through a number of simple, but characteristic, examples.

Systems on chip are more and more heterogeneous and include software, analog/RF and digital hardware, and non-electronic components such as sensors or actuators. The design and the verification of such systems require appropriate modeling means to deal wit ...

Systems-on-Chips (SoCs) integrate more and more heterogeneous components: analog/RF/digital circuits, sensors, actuators, software. For the design of these systems very different description formalisms, or Models of Computation (MoCs), and tools are used f ...

The modelling and simulation capabilities of SystemC-AMS concerning conservative continuous time systems involving the interaction of several physical domains and with digital control components are currently limited. Bond graphs unify the description of m ...
