Bayesian Optimization (BO) is typically used to optimize an unknown function f that is noisy and costly to evaluate, by exploiting an acquisition function that must be maximized at each optimization step. Even if provably asymptotically optimal BO algorith ...

Alternative best effort (ABE) is a novel service for IP networks, which relies on the idea of providing low delay at the expense of possibly less throughput. The objective is to retain the simplicity of the original Internet single-class best-effort service while providing low delay to interactive adaptive applications.

Net-Controller is a user-friendly network visualization and management tool developed at EPFL in order to easily retrieve and display in real time network statistics, such as link throughput and queue occupancy from a large testbed composed of wireless rou ...

We conduct an experiment where ten attendees of an open-air music festival are acting as Bluetooth probes. We then construct a parametric statistical model to estimate the total number of visible Bluetooth devices in the festival area. By comparing our est ...

Compared to wired networks, sensor networks pose two additional challenges for monitoring functions: they support much less probing traffic, and they change their routing topologies much more frequently. We propose therefore to use only end-to-end applicat ...

We consider a scenario where multimedia data are sent over a network offering a guaranteed service. A smoothing device writes the stream into a transmitting device with limited input buffer

The ability of the IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol to perform well in multi-hop ad hoc networks has been recently questioned. We observe levels of spatial reuse that are 30% to 50% away from the theoretical limit. The goal of this paper is ...

A short tutorial on network calculus, part II

A short tutorial on network calculus, part I

A networked set of agents holding binary opinions does not seem to be able to compute its majority opinion by means of local binary interactions only. However, the majority problem can be solved using two or more bits, instead of one [1]. Pairs of agents a ...
