We present accurate time delays for the quadruply imaged quasar HE 0435-1223. The delays were measured from 575 independent photometric points obtained in the R-band between January 2004 and March 2010. With seven years of data, we clearly show that quasar ...

We present the first detection of CO emission lines in the Ha filaments at distances as far as 50 kpc from the centre of the galaxy NGC 1275. This gas is probably dense (>= 10(3) cm(-3)). However, it is not possible to accurately determine the density and ...

Numerical simulations of dwarf galaxies have so far failed to reproduce the observed metallicity-luminosity relation, down to the regime of ultra-faint dwarfs (UFDs). We address this issue by exploring how the first generations of metal-free stars (Pop III ...

Using a set of cosmological hydro-dynamical simulations, we constrained the properties of primordial magnetic fields by studying their impact on the formation and evolution of dwarf galaxies. We performed a large set of simulations (8 dark matter only and ...

We present a large sample of fully self-consistent hydrodynamical Nbody/Tree-SPH simulations of isolated dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs). It has enabled us to identify the key physical parameters and mechanisms at the origin of the observed variety in th ...

Using an isolated Milky Way-mass galaxy simulation, we compare results from nine state-of-the-art gravitohydrodynamics codes widely used in the numerical community. We utilize the infrastructure we have built for the AGORA High-resolution Galaxy Simulation ...

Tidal dwarf galaxies (TDGs) are low-mass objects that form within tidal and/or collisional debris ejected from more massive interacting galaxies. We use CO(1-0) observations from Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array and integral-field spectroscopy ...

Numerical simulations have become one of the key tools used by theorists in all the fields of astrophysics and cosmology. The development of modern tools that target the largest existing computing systems and exploit state-of-the-art numerical methods and ...

We have recently detected CO lines in the well-known filaments around NGC 1275, the galaxy at the centre of the Perseus cluster of galaxies. These previous observations, with the HERA multi-beam array at the IRAM 30 m telescope enabled us to make a large m ...

We modify the chemo-dynamical code GEAR to simulate the impact of self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) on the observable quantities of 19 low-mass dwarf galaxies with a variety star-forming properties. We employ a relatively high, velocity independent cross ...

Context. Satellite galaxies experience multiple physical processes when interacting with their host halos, often leading to the quenching of star formation. In the Local Group, satellite quenching has been shown to be highly efficient, affecting nearly all ...

We describe a new method that only focuses on the local region surrounding an infalling dwarf in an effort to understand how the hot baryonic halo alters the chemodynamical evolution of dwarf galaxies. Using this method, we examine how a dwarf, similar to ...

We performed a comprehensive analysis of the chemical and dynamical properties of quasar-damped Lyman-α (DLA) galaxies and compare these to the GEAR chemodynamical simulations. Specifically, we aim to constrain the behavior of α-element enhancements with metallicity, the dependence of [α/Fe] on the specific star formation rate (sSFR), and the absorption-line velocity widths (Δv90) versus stellar mass, Δv90 versus metallicity, and mass–metallicity relations. For the comparison, we selected five galaxies simu

Using a suite of detailed numerical simulations, we estimate the level of anisotropy generated by the time evolution along the light cone of the 21 cm signal from the epoch of reionization. Our simulations include the physics necessary to model the signal ...

We present a suite of high-resolution cosmological zoom-in simulations to z = 4 of a 10(12) M (circle dot) halo at z = 0, obtained using seven contemporary astrophysical simulation codes (Art-I, Enzo, Ramses, Changa, Gadget-3, Gear, and Gizmo) widely used ...

Chemo-dynamical N-body simulations are an essential tool for understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies. As the number of observationally determined stellar abundances continues to climb, these simulations are able to provide new constraints on ...

Aims. We explore correlations between the strength of metallicity gradients in Local Group dwarf galaxies and their stellar mass, star formation history timescales, and environment. Methods. We performed a homogeneous analysis of literature spectroscopic d ...

We analyze the circumgalactic medium (CGM) for eight commonly-used cosmological codes in the AGORA collaboration. The codes are calibrated to use identical initial conditions, cosmology, heating and cooling, and star formation thresholds, but each evolves ...

We recently found extended CO(2-1) emission from cold molecular gas embedded in the network of Ha filaments surrounding the galaxy NGC 1275 (Salome et al. 2006). We now present CO(2-1) interferometer maps of the eastern filaments, at high spatial and spect ...

The near proportionality between HI and dark matter in outer galactic disks prompted us to run N-body simulations of galactic disks in which the observed gas content is supplemented by a dark gas component representing between zero and five times the visib ...
