Hydropeaking is the water flow or level variations in rivers caused by hydropower exploitation. This phenomenon have negatives impacts on fauna and flora. Mitigation measures can lead to producing less and reduce production at the times that are most economically attractive. In a context where renewable energy production wishes to be increased and where operators wish to maintain their revenues, these measures are not satisfactory. This work aims to propose mitigation solution which keep production and flex

In the current economic situation regarding electric generation and conservation of the environment, it is essential to develop sustainable technologies. From this point of view, hydropower is an excellent resource with a consequently high value. The syste ...

Reservoir sedimentation is known to be a key issue worldwide. One operational measure to deal with sediment accumulations is flushing; however, efficiency is often lacking. The goal of this study is thus to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of flush ...

The inner velocity structure and particle concentration profile of opaque turbidity currents were mea- sured simultaneously by ultrasound velocity profilers. Currents consisting of a quartz particle suspension were generated by using the lock-exchange meth ...

Reservoir sedimentation is an issue that dam operators are increasingly facing as dams are aging. Not only does it reduce a reservoir's capacity but it also affects its outlet structures such as bottom outlets and powerhouse intakes. Sedimentation may also ...

The challenge of understanding and managing of turbidity currents in reservoirs ...

Hydraulic scale effects on physical Piano Key weir (PKW) models were so far rarely discussed in literature, even though almost all prototypes are model-tested before construction. In parallel, physical weir models are generally known to include significant ...

Electricity generation, water supply, flood protection, flow regulation and navigation are amongst the main services provided by reservoirs. Sedimentation affects the sustainability of reservoirs, by reducing their storage capacity, and increases the negat ...

In the present study the velocity profiles and the instability at the interface of a two phase water-oil fluid were investigated. The main aim of the research project was to investigate the instability mechanisms that can cause the failure of an oil spill ...

Ilarion Dam is a 130 m high earthfill dam at Aliakmon River in northern Greece. The dam was commissioned in 2010. It has two spillway tunnels with ski jumps at the outlets. The two spillways are designed to release a total discharge of 5'500 m3/s during th ...

The Gérine River, characterized by its natural banks and an undisturbed hydrological regime, has some altered sections, such as the stretch in Marly. The preliminary project aims to widen the Gérine River to restore its lost or diminished ecological functions while also ensuring adequate flood protection.

Advances of roller compacted concrete (RCC) in the construction of concrete dams has significantly influenced the development of stepped spillways. The latter are now more frequently implemented in the rocky abutments of embankment dams. The energy dissipa ...
