Resting skeletal muscle has a preference for the oxidation of lipids compared to carbohydrates and a shift towards carbohydrate oxidation is observed with increasing exercise. Lactate is not only an end product in skeletal muscle but also an important meta ...

In mammals, glycogen synthesis and degradation are dynamic processes regulating blood and cerebral glucose-levels within a well-defined physiological range. Despite the essential role of glycogen in hepatic and cerebral metabolism, its spatiotemporal distr ...

A spectrometer allowing the measurement of signals with spin-spin relaxation times as short as 0.5 μs has been developed. It consists of a transmitter based on a commercial spectrometer and a homemade receiver. The acquired signals are imported in the soft ...

Hyperpolarization by dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) is a versatile technique to dramatically enhance the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signal intensity of insensitive long-T1 nuclear spins such as 6 Li. The 6 Li longitudinal relaxation o ...

The real-time metabolic transformation of lactate in the mouse head was monitored following the injection of hyperpolarized 1-13C lactate at physiological doses. The results were compared with metabolic studies performed with hyperpolarized 1-13C pyruvate at similar blood concentration. From the observation that the lactate to alanine ratio was nearly identical following both the pyruvate and the lactate injections, we concluded that the substrate and its metabolites can be detected in real time at physiolo

A high throughput method was designed to produce hyperpolarized gases by combining lowtemperature dynamic nuclear polarization with a sublimation procedure. It is illustrated by applications to 129Xe nuclear magnetic resonance in xenon gas, leading to a si ...

(Figure Presented) Chemical shifts of protons can report on metabolic transformations such as the conversion of choline to phosphocholine. To follow such processes in vivo, magnetization can be enhanced by dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). We have hyperp ...

A dynamic nuclear polarization prepolarizer was developed and coupled to a 9.4 T rodent magnetic resonance imaging scanner in order to perform in vivo hyperpolarization experiments. In the present paper, emphasis is put on methods and hardware performance ...

Apart from their very classical use to build polarized targets for particle physics, the methods of dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) have more recently found application for sensitivity enhancement in high-resolution NMR, both in the solid and in the liq ...

Cardiac dysfunction is often associated with a shift in substrate preference for ATP production. Hyperpolarized (HP) (13)C magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) has the unique ability to detect real-time metabolic changes in vivo due to its high sensitivit ...

The most versatile method to increase liquid-state 13C NMR sensitivity is dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization. The use of trityl radicals is usually required to obtain very large 13C polarization via this technique. We herein demonstrate that up to 35 ...

A method for the preparation of a sample comprising highly polarized nuclear spins is proposed, comprising at least the following steps: a) provision of molecules with 1,2-dione structural units and/or molecules with 2,5-diene-1,4-dione structural units in ...

Hyperpolarization via dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) is a versatile method to dramatically enhance the liquid-state NMR signal of X-nuclei and can be used for performing metabolic and molecular imaging. It was recently demonstrated that ins ...

Major breakthroughs have recently been reported that can help overcome two inherent drawbacks of NMR: the lack of sensitivity and the limited memory of longitudinal magnetization. Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) couples nuclear spins to the large reserv ...

Packings of granular materials are complex systems consisting of large sets of particles interacting via contact forces. Their internal structure is interesting for several theoretical and practical reasons, especially when the model system consists in a l ...
