L'urbanisme est l'ensemble des sciences, des techniques et des arts relatifs à l'organisation et à l'aménagement des espaces urbains. Ce projet peut être sous-tendu par une volonté d'assurer le bien-être de l'homme et d'améliorer les rapports sociaux en préservant l'environnement. Les professionnels qui exercent ce métier sont des urbanistes.

L'occupation du sol est pour la FAO (1998) et donc le type d'usage (ou de non-usage) fait des terres par l'Homme. La mosaïque paysagère est cartographiée en identifiant les types homogènes de milieux (ex : zones artificialisées, zones agricoles, forêts ou landes, zones humides, etc.). Des typologies standardisées, traduites en nomenclatures, sont produites depuis les années 1980.

Social supportSocial support is the perception and actuality that one is cared for, has assistance available from other people, and most popularly, that one is part of a supportive social network. These supportive resources can be emotional (e.g., nurturance), informational (e.g., advice), or companionship (e.g., sense of belonging); tangible (e.g., financial assistance) or intangible (e.g., personal advice). Social support can be measured as the perception that one has assistance available, the actual received assistance, or the degree to which a person is integrated in a social network.
UrbanisteL'urbaniste est un « technicien spécialisé dans l'ordonnancement des espaces urbains ». Son rayon d'action concerne principalement les agglomérations et la planification territoriale. Le terme d'urbaniste peut parfois englober ou être confondu avec la profession d'aménageur qui comprend un rayon d'action dépassant les espaces urbains mais emploie, en fonction du contexte, les mêmes compétences.
