Gravitational and acoustic micromanipulation platforms for high-content histological analysis of organoids and spheroids

Three-dimensional cell culture models (3D-CCMs), such as organoids and spheroids, are powerful tools for studying organ development and drug testing. Histology is a valuable imaging technique for its ability to reveal tissue architecture and biomarker localization at arbitrary depths within 3D-CCMs. However, conventional histological workflows are often low-throughput and labor-intensive, primarily due to the random embedding of 3D-CCMs within hydrogel blocks. To address these limitations, this thesis devel

Comb Drive Designs With Minimized Levitation

Matthias Imboden

This paper presents two capacitive comb drive designs for electrostatic actuation of MEMS with the aim to eliminate the levitation effect often observed in such systems. By placing a shield over the comb drive fingers, it is possible to balance the electri ...

The negative triangularity tokamak: stability limits and prospects as a fusion energy system

Olivier Sauter, Ambrogio Fasoli, Laurent Villard, Yu Wu, Andrei Martynov

The paper discusses edge stability, beta limits and power handling issues for negative triangularity tokamaks. The edge magnetohydrodynamic stability is the most crucial item for power handling. For the case of negative triangularity the edge stability pic ...

Stability limits for tokamak plasma with negative triangularity

Olivier Sauter, Laurent Villard, Holger Reimerdes

Negative triangularity tokamak plasmas are subject of an increased interest both in existing experiments and in studies of core physics as well as power handling relevant to the fusion demonstration power reactor. The ideal MHD stability calculations for the negative triangularity plasma extend the investigation of the TCV tokamak beta limits and edge stability to double null shapes, lower aspect ratio and negative shear. In case of the negative triangularity, the 2nd stability access is closed for ballooni

Ripple formation and sediment-suspension events in unsteady depth-varying open-channel flow

Ulrich Lemmin, Fereshteh Bagherimiyab Hunkeler

The development of ripples and its effects on suspended sediment during unsteady flow was studied experimentally to understand and quantify the processes during floods. Quasi-instantaneous profiles of velocity and sediment concentration were taken simultan ...
