Thin-wall metal ultramicro- and nanoelectrodes (UMEs/NEs), especially gold-based ones, are key probes for high-resolution electrochemical microscopy, biosensing, and nanoscale interfacial studies. Yet, their broader use remains limited by fragility, low detection sensitivity, and the lack of scalable fabrication methods. Here, we present a template-assisted, non-self-limited polyol-based growth strategy that realizes single-crystalline, thin-walled Au UMEs/NEs, as well as multifunctional probes, with high y

This paper presents a high-power Ku-band subwavelength bandpass filter based on a volumetric locally resonant metamaterial (LRM) waveguide topology, targeting compact narrowband filters for space applications. The structure consists of a rectangular waveguide loaded with a small number of periodically arranged metallic pins operating below the cutoff frequency of the host guide. Hybridization between the evanescent TE10 mode and the local resonances creates a slow, subwavelength guided mode and a hybridizat

The kinetic inertness and low solubility of Au3(pyrazolate)3 complexes have made it difficult to integrate them into supramolecular assemblies. In this thesis, an investigation into the dynamic combinatorial chemistry of these complexes is presented, followed by strategies for their incorporation into molecular cages and a study of the host - guest chemistry of the resulting assemblies. The first research chapter, Chapter 2, describes the constitutional dynamic chemistry of Au3(pyrazolate)3 complexes. Liga

Upon attending this training, participants should have a clear understanding of what OA is; which are the most used models (Gold, Hybrid, Green...); what are the policies at national and institutional levels and how to comply with funders’ requirements; how to recognize a predatory journal.

It is commonly held that asynchronous consensus is much more complex, difficult, and costly than partially-synchronous algorithms, especially without using common coins. This paper challenges that conventional wisdom with que sera consensus QSC, an approach to consensus that cleanly decomposes the agreement problem from that of network asynchrony. QSC uses only private coins and reaches consensus in O(1) expected communication rounds. It relies on "lock-step" synchronous broadcast, but can run atop a thresh

Currently, one of the gold-standard methods to obtain brain myelin water fraction (MWF) maps is the multi-echo spin-echo sequence. To overcome some of its limitations (e.g. long acquisition times), a data-driven approach for deriving MWF maps is proposed here. A general linear model (GLM) and a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) were trained to learn the reference MWF from T1 and T2 maps acquired in a healthy cohort. While GLM-derived maps exhibited MWF overestimation, especially in WM tissue

In recent years the demand for gold and other precious metals has increased dramatically, insomuch as in the last decade gold prices have quintupled. In the contest of the lack of trust in the traditional financial market, recovery and refining of precious metals from e-waste, automotive catalysts, and scrap jewellery and waste generated by jewellery manufacture have become increasingly more important. Controlled recovery of precious metals reduces additional waste production and helps prevent the need for

Thin gold films on silicone display large reversible change in electrical resistance upon stretching. Eutectic liquid metal conductors maintain bulk metal conductivity, even upon extensive elongation. When integrated together, the soft metals enable multid ...

A novel third generation biosensor was developed based on one-shot adsorption of chemically-modified cytochrome c (cyt c) onto bare gold electrodes. In contrast to the classic approach which consists of attaching cyt c onto an active self-assembled monolayer (SAM) priory chemisorbed on gold, here short-chain thiol derivatives (mercaptopropionic acid, MPA) were chemically introduced on cyt c protein shell via its lysine residues enabling the very fast formation ( < 5 min) of an electroactive biological self-

Two series of Au/TiO2 materials with different gold content have been prepared by dc-magnetron sputtering on ceramic shaped pure anatase or Degussa P25 TiO2. The time of deposition was varied between 1 and 20 min in order to obtain different thickness and ...

Two dinuclear oxo-bridged organogold(III) compounds, namely [(N,N,C)(2)Au-2(mu-O)]PF6 (with N,N,CH = 6-(1-methylbenzyl)-2,2'-bipyridine, Au(2)O1; or 6-(1,1-dimethylbenzyl)-2,2'-bipyridine, Au(2)O2), were previously prepared and characterised. Their so ...

We present the characterization of short-range ordered hexagonal arrays of subwavelength holes in thin gold films. The hole arrays are fabricated by a low-cost technique using convectively self-assembled polystyrene beads as an initial pattern template. Our results suggest that corrugated, short-range ordered hole arrays allow the excitation of resonant surface plasmons. This opens the door to inexpensive, large- scale and high throughput fabrication of nanophotonic devices.

Subwavelength hole arrays in thin gold films were fabricated in a low-cost and parallel fabrication process on 2" wafers. Polystyrene beads were used as an initial pattern template which is transferred into a thin gold film by sputter etching. Hole arrays with two different periodicities were characterized in optical transmission measurements in air and in liquids of varying refractive index. Despite the conical hole shape and long-range disorder of the arrays, the optical transmission spectra are similar t

A generic method is described for the reversible immobilization of polyhistidine-bearing polypeptides and proteins on attenuated total reflecting (ATR) sensor surfaces for the detection of biomol. interactions by FTIR spectroscopy. Nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) groups are covalently attached to self-assembled monolayers of either thioalkanes on gold films or mercaptosilanes on silicon dioxide films deposited on germanium internal reflection elements. Complex formation between Ni2+ ions and NTA groups activate

Codeposition of hydrocarbons is a severe problem during focused electron beam writing of pure metal nanostructures. When using organometallic precursors, a low metal content carbonaceous matrix embedding and separating numerous nanosized metal clusters is formed. In this work, we present a new and easy approach to obtain high purity gold lines: the use of inorganic PF3AuCl as a precursor. Electrical resistivities as low as 22 µOhms cm at 295 K (ten times the bulk Au value) were obtained. This is to our know

Ultrasmall gold particles have been prepared inside the micelles of polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene oxide) and polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) in toluene. Starting point was the formation of a thermodynamically stable dispersion of HAuCl4 or LiAuCl4 in the inverse micelles of the block copolymer which were treated with hydrazine or pyrrole. Analysis of the effect of the reduction agent on the stability of the micelles yielded a simple model for the transformation process involv

A simple approach to the in situ measurement of IR spectra of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold in an aq. environment is described. A thin gold film (3-5 nm) on the surface of a germanium internal reflection element is used as a substrate for the self-assembly of a monolayer of a chelating thioalkane. High signal-to-noise spectra are obtained, allowing identification of the chem. groups present in the SAM. Complexation of ions by the SAM can be monitored, and the secondary conformation of His-tagged

The formation of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold surfaces contg. an antigenic peptide (NANP)6 and HS(CH2)11OH, and the specific binding of a monoclonal antibody to these layers were investigated by surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Peptides were synthesized by solid-state phase synthesis and were linked either to cysteine or to an alkyl-thiol to allow covalent attachment to gold. The content of the peptide in the SAMs was systematically varied, and the binding properties of the monoclonal antibody w

Physisorbed and covalently bound Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers of sulfur-bearing lipids on mica and on gold substrates, resp., have been studied. Scanning force microscopy, in topog. and friction modes as well as in contact and non-contact modes have been used to investigate these films in the region of coexisting phases. For the first time, a detailed and complex internal structure of solid-analogous monolayer domains, reflecting their sym. morphol., has been obsd. Comparisons of physisorbed monolayers
