The composition of oxidant-reactive dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) is poorly characterized, although its ozonation is likely to form a great variety of disinfection by-products containing a nitrogen-oxygen bond (NDBPs). In this study, two chemical oxidat ...

Ethynylbenziodoxolones (EBXs) are commonly used as radical traps in photocatalytic alkynylations. Herein, we report that aryl-substituted EBX reagents can be directly activated by visible light irradiation. They act as both oxidants and radical traps, alle ...

Combining iron with a tetraamido-macrocyclic ligand (Fe-TAML) as a catalyst and with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as the bulk oxidant is a process that has been suggested for the oxidative abatement of micropollutants during water treatment. In this study, the ...

Many abundant and highly bioactive natural alkaloids contain an indolizidine skeleton. A simple, high yielding method to synthesize this scaffold from N-heterocycles was developed. A wide range of pyridines, quinolines and isoquinolines reacted with donor- ...

Catalysis fulfills the promise that high-yielding chemical transformations will require little energy and produce no toxic waste. This message is carried by the study of the evolution of molecular catalysis of some of the most important reactions in organi ...

Disinfection processes such as chlorination, chloramination, and ozonation are a crucial measure to provide safe drinking water because they effectively inactivate pathogenic microorganisms. However, these processes can also lead to the formation of harmfu ...

Crabe interrupted: Propargylamines 1 react with a-isocyanoacetamides 2 in the presence of zinc bromide to afford vinyl oxazoles 3. The transformation, wherein the propargylamine acts as a vinyl cation synthetic equivalent, involves a domino sequence incorp ...

FeCl2 catalyzes the oxidative C-C cross-coupling of tertiary amines with terminal alkynes into propargylamines using (t-BuO)2 as oxidant. The reaction can be applied to aromatic and aliphatic amines and alkynes without solvent. High chemoselectivity for am ...

The goal of this thesis is to develop new carbon-carbon bond forming reactions using inexpensive and simple coupling partners like aryl halides (pseudohalides), sulfonyl derivatives, Grignard reagents, alkenes and alkynes with metal catalysis, preferably u ...
