Intelligent Tactile Perception Revolution: Innovations in Flexible FET‐Based Tactile Sensors for Next‐Gen Human–Machine Interfaces

Field‐effect transistors (FETs) with controllable field‐dependent carrier transport characteristics and unique signal amplification have provided an excellent platform for developing high‐performance artificial sensors and intelligent‐sensing interaction technologies. As the critical component of humanoid robotics, FET‐based tactile sensors with diverse working mechanisms have been studied intensively and have demonstrated remarkable potential in intelligent human–machine interactions. Given that effective

Design of Flexure Mechanisms Incorporating Pre- and Post-Buckled Beams for Enhanced Mechanical Functionalities

Flexure mechanisms are widely employed in precision engineering thanks to their intrinsic advantages over conventional articulated systems, including frictionless motion, high repeatability, absence of backlash, and possibility of monolithic fabrication. However, their performance is fundamentally constrained by inherent stiffness, limited stroke, and complex motions. To address the inherent stiffness limitation, stiffness tuning has emerged as a key design objective. In particular, axial precompression of

Analysis of the first COLIBRI fuel rods oscillation campaign in the CROCUS reactor for the European project CORTEX

Andreas Pautz, Vincent Pierre Lamirand, Mathieu Hursin, Carlo Fiorina, Oskari Ville Pakari, Pavel Frajtag, Axel Guy Marie Laureau, Adolfo Rais, Daniel Godat

The Horizon2020 European project CORTEX aims at developing an innovative core monitoring technique that allows detecting anomalies in nuclear reactors, such as excessive vibrations of core internals, flow blockage, or coolant inlet perturbations. The techn ...

Cheetah-cub-S: Steering of a Quadruped Robot using Trunk Motion

Auke Ijspeert

In Cheetah-cub-S we realized an efficiant concept by implementing a spine-like structure with one DoF into a quadruped, modular and mobile platform. We increased maneuverability dramatically compared to a robot with rigid spine, while keeping controlling effort low by using intelligent mechanics. Therefore, it is possible to steer via trunk motion without changing the gait or corresponding parameters. The robot weights 1160 g at 0.1 m (height), 0.105 m (width) and 0.205 m (length). Based on qualitative test

Harvesting Energy From a Rotating Gear Using an AFM-Like MEMS Piezoelectric Frequency Up-Converting Energy Harvester

Nico de Rooij

This paper presents an analytical and experimental study of a compact configuration to harvest energy from a rotating gear using piezoelectric microelectromechanical system harvesters. The reported configuration realizes a contact-type frequency up-conversion mechanism in order to generate useful electrical energy. The up-conversion mechanism was achieved using an atomic force microscope (AFM)-like piezoelectric cantilever plucked by the teeth of the rotating gear that could be eventually driven by an oscil

Progress On The Iter Upper Launcher Millimeter Wave Design And Testing

René Chavan, Federico Alberto Alfredo Felici, Frédéric Dolizy

The main purpose of the ITER ECH upper launcher is to control magnetohydrodynamic activity, in particular neoclassical tearing modes, in the plasma. The mm-wave optical system is optimized to insure that the eight RF beams are all focused to a small beam w ...

Investigation of the prechamber geometrical configuration of a natural gas spark ignition engine for cogeneration: part. I, numerical simulation

Daniel Favrat

The effects and the consequences of transferring the ignition point of the conventional combustion chamber into a small unscavenged prechamber were evaluted through a numerical simulation based on the CFD-code KIVA- 3V. The prechamber flow characteristics at the location of the gap between the spark plug electrodes and in the crank angle period where the ignition is expected to occur were compared to the corresponding conditions in the conventional combustion chamber. The influence of the prechamber geometr
