[0001] An electro-mechanically stackable docking station (1) is proposed for a drone. the docking station (1) comprises: a housing (8) comprising a door (5); a tray mechanism (6) comprising a tray (6) configured to move between a retracted position, and an extended position; a landing pad (7) on the tray (6) for the drone; a data communication module to allow the docking station (1) to set up a data communication link with the drone (2) and/or with another device; a data processing unit to process data;

The efficiency of green hydrogen production via water splitting is typically hindered by the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Here we investigate the performance of various nickel nanoclusters, deposited via a binder-free gas-phase method, as OER catalysts on two distinct porous platforms: commercial gas diffusion layers (GDL) for electrocatalysis and mesoporous TiO 2 thin films for photoelectrocatalysis. For dark electrocatalysis on GDL, we find a non-linear relationship between ca

The effects of negative triangularity (NT) on boundary plasma turbulence in double-null (DN) configurations are investigated using global, nonlinear, three-dimensional, flux-driven two-fluid simulations. Negative triangularity plasmas exhibit suppressed interchange-driven instabilities, resulting in enhanced confinement and lower fluctuation levels compared with positive triangularity (PT) plasmas. This reduction in interchange instability is associated with the weakening of curvature effects in the unfavou

Quantifying how urban heat islands (UHIs) influence regional electricity consumption remains challenging because station-based indicators and prescribed heating/cooling degree-day (HDD/CDD) thresholds often fail to capture intra-urban thermal heterogeneity and nonlinear demand responses during extremes. This study addresses these limitations by combining machine learning with MODIS thermal remote sensing to reconstruct gap-free daily land surface temperature (LST) fields across Local Climate Zones (LCZs) in

Tubular dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs), used for ventricular assist devices (VAD), have shown strong performance in biomedical applications due to their electromechanical properties as actuators, achieving large displacement. Integrating DEAs for medical devices requires a compact and efficient power supply module that can harvest energy for extended periods. Bidirectional DC-DC converters ensure optimal performance in powering DEAs. Therefore, a Solid-State Marx generator is presented, capable of op

To address the lack of reliable curing strategies for seawater sea-sand concrete (SSC) in extremely cold marine regions, this study proposes an ohmic-heating (OH) curing approach that enables self-generated internal heating through a percolation-based conductive network. This energy-efficient method simultaneously promotes rapid hydration, microstructural stabilization, and long-term durability. A percolation-controlled conductive network was achieved by incorporating 1.25 vol% carbon fibers (CFs), reducing

Piezoelectric energy harvesters are devices that power sensor nodes and generally low-power electronics. This is achieved by converting vibrations or alternating magnetic fields into electrical power stored in a secondary cell. Most of the piezoelectric energy harvesters are based on cantilevers as they have lower resonant frequencies which allows to gather widespread energy sources present at low frequencies (

Buildings account for over 70% of the electricity use in the US. As cities grow, high peaks of electricity consumption are becoming more frequent, which leads to higher prices for electricity. Demand response is the coordination of electrical loads such th ...

Failures in the metallic interconnections are among the main degradation modes for photovoltaic modules. Fatigue accumulation due to thermomechanical stresses can result in deterioration of the solder joints or in broken ribbons. In this paper, we first qu ...

This master thesis is the last part of the master studies in the department of Energy Management and Sustainability, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne. This work has been performed in collaboration with the company Renenig Energy, in Athens. The reader should note that the report is an academical work. Results and conclusion are influenced by hypothesis and should not be taken as general truths. The case study is a fictive project but it is composed of values adapted from anoth

This paper investigates the power loads at the inner and outer divertor targets of attached, Ohmic L-mode, deuterium plasmas in the TCV tokamak, in various experimental situations using an Infrared thermography system. The study comprises variations of the ...

The mismatch between household electricity consumption and solar energy production is a key issue for the fast deployment of this technology in a low-voltage grid. Namely, as high photovoltaic generation occurs during the day while the load remains low, the power flow can be reversed from the low-voltage grid to the medium voltage grid. This is a key parameter in the limitation of the photovoltaic hosting capacity. \ In order to increase the penetration of solar energy in a low-voltage network, demand-side

In this report, the in uence of several geometric parameters on the performance of aluminum nitride (AlN) contour mode resonators (CMR) is investigated at dierent frequencies (182 MHz, 460 MHz and 570 MHz). Main in uence is the anchor width (Wa) and the anchor length (La), which are expressed as multiples of the acoustic wavelength . The dimensions of the oscillating body will vary as well. It is observed, that during the fabrication one process did not work evenly across the wafer resulting in dierent reso

There is no doubt about the potential offered by the low-cost fabrication and high efficiency of hybrid organic inorganic perovskite solar cells. However, the service lifetimes of these devices must be increased from months to years to capitalize on their ...

The report focuses on the development of a practical and scalable methodology for the planning and operation of Active Distribution Networks (ADNs) with particular reference to the integration of Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) owned, and directly controlled, by the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). In this respect, an exact convex formulation of the Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problem, called Augmented Relaxed OPF (AR-OPF), is first proposed for the case of radial power networks [1]-[3]. The proposed formu
