The removal of nitrous oxide (N2O) from industrial flue gases remains a significant environmental challenge due to the intrinsic kinetic stability of the N2O molecule. Among available abatement technologies, the direct catalytic decomposition of N2O into harmless N2 and O2 (deN2O) represents a promising, reagent-free solution. In this study, we systematically screened a series of catalysts obtained from Co3O4 by addition of transition elements, magnesium and aluminum (10 wt%), and analog series with additio

Antigenic variability among influenza virus strains poses a significant challenge to developing broadly protective, long-lasting vaccines. Current annual vaccines target specific strains, requiring accurate prediction for effective neutralization. Despite sequence diversity across phylogenetic groups, the hemagglutinin (HA) head domain’s structure remains highly conserved. Utilizing this conservation, we designed cross-group chimeric HAs that combine antigenic surfaces from distant strains. By structure-gui

Anthropogenic activity has caused a dramatic decrease in biodiversity with an estimated 100-1000 fold larger extinction rate compared to the natural background. This biodiversity loss has profound effects on the functioning and stability of ecosystems and consequent adverse societal and economic impacts. Increased deposition of reactive nitrogen (Nr) is one of the major drivers of biodiversity loss, alongside land-use change, biotic exchange, and climate change. The large increase in the input of anthropoge

We use rotational excitation spectroscopy with a scanning tunneling microscope to investigate the rotational properties of molecular hydrogen and its isotopes physisorbed on the surfaces of graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), grown on Ni(111), Ru(0001), and Rh(111). The rotational excitation energies are in good agreement with Delta J = 2 transitions of freely spinning p-H-2 and o-D-2 molecules. The variations of the spectral line shapes for H-2 among the different surfaces can be traced back to a

This work presents the simultaneous fabrication of ambient relative humidity (RH) and temperature sensors arrays, inkjet-printed on flexible substrates and subsequently encapsulated at foil level. These sensors are based on planar interdigitated capacitors with an inkjet-printed sensing layer and meander-shaped resistors. Their combination allows the compensation of the RH signals variations at different temperatures. The whole fabrication of the system is carried out at foil level and involves the utilizat

Rhodium thin film catalyst supported on YSZ solid electrolyte and interfaced with a dispersed TiO2 layer (Rh/TiO2/YSZ) exhibits the particular behavior of having two distinct stable states, an inactive (oxidized) and an active (metallic) state, with respect to the partial oxidn. of methane to syngas. Close to stoichiometric gas compn. (CH4:O2=2:1) at 550 DegC, the inactive Rh/TiO2/YSZ catalyst was successfully activated by current application, either pos. or neg. The obsd. phenomenon is an example of "perm

An Ia mechanism was assigned for water exchange on the hexaaquaions Rh(OH2)63+ and Ir(OH2)63+ on the basis of negative ΔV⧧ experimental values (−4.2 and −5.7 cm3 mol-1, respectively). The use of ΔV⧧ as a mechanistic criterion was open to debate primarily because ΔV⧧ could be affected by extension or compression of the nonparticipating ligand bond lengths on going to the transition state of an exchange process. In this paper, volume and energy profiles for two distinct water exchange mechanisms (D and Ia) ha

Catalysts immobilised in ionic liquids have been analysed using electrospray ionisation ion trap mass spectrometry, which allows identification of the catalyst without contamination from the ionic liquid; additionally, a new ionic liquid containing the Monsanto catalyst as the anionic component, Rh(CO)(2)I-2, has been characterised using the same method.

[Rh-4 (CO)(6) (mu-Me2PCH2PMe2)(3)], the first example of a hexasubstituted derivative of Rh-4(CO)(12), has a ground state geometry in the solid state and in solution of C-s symmetry with four edge-bridging carbonyls and with each diphosphine ligand bridging one edge of the same Rh-3 face. The result is an imbalance of the formal electron count at two rhodium atoms. As observed by C-13- and P-31-NMR, the mobility of the ligands is restricted to one mu-CO eta-CO site exchange which astonishingly does not

Hydroformylation of vinyl arenes (p-metboxystyrene and p-fluorostyrene) was performed in aqueous solutions using as catalyst precursor Rh(mu-OMe)(cod) (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) associated with the sulfonated 1,3-diarylphosphines (tetra-sulfonated 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane (dpppts)) and the chiral (S,S)-bdppts (2,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)pentane). The influence of pH on the reaction rate was studied. After 24 h conversion was practically total with the achiral system in basic medium for the subs

Using transient expression, high amounts (>20 mg/mL) of secreted anti-human Rhesus-D IgG1 were produced in a suspension-adapted HEK293 EBNA cell line (Meissner et al., Biotechnol Bioeng 75: 197-203, 2001). Time of harvest was 3 days after transfection. For the estimation of transfection efficiencies, we routinely co-transfected EGFP reporter DNA. At higher reporter plasmid concentrations, >2% of total transfecting plasmid DNA, a substantial reduction of recombinant antibody synthesis, was observed. This phe

The reaction of (arene)RuCl2 (arene = C6H6 cymene, C6H3Et3, or C6Me6) or Cp*RhCl2 with 3-hydroxy-2-pyridone in the presence of Cs2CO3 gives trinuclear metallamacro-cyclic complexes. The self-assembly process was shown to be completely diastereoselective, and a racemic mixture of complexes with MRMRMR or MSMSMS (M = Ru, Rh) configuration was obtained. Plausible mononuclear intermediates of the formula [(arene)RuCl(C5H4NO2)] (arene = cymene, C6Me6) have been isolated and characterized. A structurall

Some cementitious materials cured at elevated temperature may expand on subsequent exposure to moisture. Concern has been expressed as to the relevance of small laboratory specimens to field concretes, in particular due to the potential leaching of ions into the storage solution. The work presented here aims at investigating this effect. Mortars cured at elevated temperature in identical fashion were subsequently stored at 90-100% relative humidity (RH) and in water, a LiOH solution, and KOH solutions of va

Ethylene oxidn. on IrO2, which is a metal-type conducting metal oxide, and on Pt and Rh was used as a model reaction to compare the rate enhancement and kinetic modification induced by (i) electrochem. promotion (non-Faradaic electrochem. modification of catalytic activity effect) via electrochem. O2- supply from YSZ (Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2) and TiO2 and by (ii) metal-support interactions obtained by interfacing IrO2 with TiO2 (with and without electrochem. promotion) or by depositing dispersed Rh on TiO2 and
