The introduction of new experimental data causes computational loss and reduces robustness of the concrete performance prediction model. To solve the mentioned problems caused by repeatedly tuning parameters and model retraining, this paper proposed an incremental update framework for multi-source low-carbon concrete datasets, integrating a Bayesian-optimization-based conditional tabular generative adversarial network (BO-CTGAN), a stacking ensemble model, adaptive weighting, and an experience replay mechan

Hydraulic fracturing, originally developed to enhance hydrocarbon production, is increasingly applied to geothermal systems, subsurface thermal energy storage, and carbon sequestration. In these applications, reservoir containment is critical: controlling fracture growth through careful management of injection pressure and flow rate is essential to prevent unintended fluid migration and ensure long-term caprock integrity. Hydraulic fracture growth is strongly influenced by near-tip processes, including rock

Xenon-135 (Xe-135) is a high-yield fission product with high neutron-capture cross section. it is a commonly encountered reactor reactivity poison. Direct observation of Xe in reactors typically relies on off-gas measurement techniques, which can be challenging or costly to implement and often require high-flux reactors. Gamma spectroscopy of irradiated U or Pu samples provides an alternative method for obtaining fission yields and population estimates. When predicting the Xe populations of a given reactor,

Nuclear fusion in tokamaks represents a promising solution for producing clean and sustainable energy. However, achieving stable and reliable operation requires controlling plasma dynamics over long periods. A crucial part of this challenge lies in the ability to predict plasma behavior from limited measurements, in order to anticipate and mitigate potential instabilities. In this context, it is particularly useful to develop tools that can evaluate the predictability horizon of a dynamic system, that is, t

Both star clusters and variable stars are sensitive laboratories of stellar astrophysics and evolution: cluster member stars provide context for interpreting cluster populations, whereas variability reveals the nature of individual stellar systems. The European Space Agency's Gaia mission has revolutionized the census of star clusters in the Milky Way, while simultaneously providing an unprecedented homogeneous all-sky catalog of variable stars. Here, we leverage the third Gaia data release to obtain an emp

Highly localized in-core measurements are necessary for the validation of neutron transport calculations with high spatial resolution. In the present work, a miniature neutron detector developed at EPFL in collaboration with PSI was used to carry out a set ...

Solar thermochemical redox cycles provide a sustainable pathway for solar fuel processing. If done in porous (ceria) structures, they can profit from faster reaction rates owned to the enhanced heat and mass transport characteristics. However, the exact porous structure and operating conditions significantly affect the performance. We present a transient volume-averaged fixed-bed model of a thermochemical redox reactor utilizing macroporous ceria. We studied the porosity-dependent (ε=0.4-0.9) and operating

Since the 20th century, the rate of urbanization in the world has been increasing exponentially and will reach 68% in 2050. In parallel with this expansion, the size and activities of cities are also greatly growing. As a result, cities are depleting available space and energy resources at an alarming rate. In order to be able to respond to these demands, the solution of building more underground structures is being put in place and is already being implemented in some megacities. These infrastructures have

Following an unintended disconnection of a synchronous generator (SG) from the power system, what is also known as a loss of generation (LoG), it is not trivial to precisely estimate the post-event power system's inertia and the LoG size. One of reasons fo ...

Magnesium (Mg) alloys have recently been put under the spotlight for their specific strength, the highest among structural metals. Although the mechanical behaviour of Mg alloys at quasi-static strain rates has been extensively modelled in the recent years ...

The performance of two mass-produced Nb3Sn conductors for the ITER central solenoids was tested for the first timmass-produced Nb3Sn conductorse. One was cut from the forward end of an 80-m-long conductor, and the other was cut from the forward end of a 91 ...

We consider a fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problem discretized by finite elements featuring two different grids that do not necessarily agree on the interface separating the computational domain of the fluid from the one of the structure. After identifying a master domain (the structural domain) and a slave domain (the fluid domain), we build up two radial basis function (RBF) inter-grid operators, one Π_fs from master to slave, and the other Π_sf from slave to master. Then, we enforce the kinematic co

We consider a fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problem discretized by finite elements featuring two different grids that do not necessarily agree on the interface separating the computational domain of the fluid from the one of the structure. After identifying a master domain (the structural domain) and a slave domain (the fluid domain), we build up two Radial Basis Function (RBF) inter-grid operators, one Pfs from master to slave, and the other Psf from slave to master. Then, we enforce the kinematic cond

A recent TCV experiment has investigated the dependence of the L H transition threshold power on the plasma current ramp-rate and the X-point height above the divertor target, which both have previously been seen to affect the transition behaviour. Systema ...

We address the classical problem of delta feature computation, and interpret the operation involved in terms of Savitzky-Golay (SG) filtering. Features such as the mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs), obtained based on short-time spectra of the speech signal, are commonly used in speech recognition tasks. In order to incorporate the dynamics of speech, auxiliary delta and delta-delta features, which are computed as temporal derivatives of the original features, are used. Typically, the delta feature
