Khattat: Enhancing Readability and Concept Representation of Semantic Typography

Designing expressive typography that visually conveys a word's meaning while maintaining readability is a complex task, known as semantic typography. It involves selecting an idea, choosing an appropriate font, and balancing creativity with legibility. We introduce an end-to-end system that automates this process. First, a Large Language Model (LLM) generates imagery ideas for the word, useful for abstract concepts like "freedom." Then, the FontCLIP pre-trained model automatically selects a suitable font ba

Software optimization for a RISC-V accelerator: A case study

Writing high-performance software these days is a challenging task. In the past, CPU performance scaled regularly with advances in device technology, leaving much of the work to algorithmic optimizations and reducing overhead. Since then, the scaling of CPU performance has waned significantly, and the hardware world has compensated with increasingly application-specific hardware, often known as accelerators. Despite years of effort in automation, by and large, the burden still falls on the developer to writ

Synthetic Linear Analysis with Applications to CubeHash and Rabbit

Serge Vaudenay

In linear cryptanalysis, it has been considered most important and difficult to analyze the bias and find a large bias. The demonstration of a large bias will usually imply that the target crypto-system is not strong. Regarding the bias analysis, researchers tend to look for a theoretical solution for a specific problem. In this paper, we take a first step towards the synthetic approach on bias analysis. We successfully apply our synthetic analysis to improve the most recent linear attacks on CubeHash and R

Location Privacy amidst Local Eavesdroppers

Mobile social networks and location-aware applications are becoming more and more widespread in current wireless networks. Thanks to WiFi or Bluetooth-enabled devices, everyday mobile users can enjoy new services. However, the deployment of these mobile technologies leads to many concerns for privacy, especially location privacy. In wireless networks, external malicious parties can monitor pseudonyms used for identification to learn mobile users' location and track their movements. A common technique for pr

High performance VLSI architectures implementing strong cryptographic primitives

Feth Allah Cherigui

The main topic of this thesis is related to the state of the art in designing cryptographic primitives from a hardware point of view. A special emphasis is dedicated to low-power/low-energy CMOS design. A set of solutions is proposed including an LFSR based stream cipher with self-synchronizing capabilities, a new memory-less Rijndael block cipher architecture and a public key scheme in the class of discrete logarithm. The former is based on arithmetic in large finite field, mainly Galois extension field GF

Preferential Treatment of Acknowledgment Packets in a Differentiated Services Network

Patrick Thiran

In the context of Differentiated Services (DiffServ), we investigate the effect of acknowledgment marking on the throughput of TCP connections. We carry out experiments on a testbed offering three classes of service (Premium, Assured and Best-Effort), and different levels of congestion on the data and acknowledgment path. We apply a full factorial statistical design and deduce that marking TCP data packets is not sufficient and that acknowledgment marking on the reverse path is a necessary condition to effi

Method for securing communications between a terminal and an additional user equipment

Levente Buttyan

Method for performing electronic payments between a mobile equipment and a payment terminal over a short distance wireless interface, comprising displaying an identification (for example T; T-id) on the display (110) of said payment terminal (11), manually entering said identification on the input means (103) of said mobile equipment, using said identification in an message to the payment terminal, said message used to start establishment of an extended mutual authentication, said extended mutual authentica

Using Quality of Service can be simple: Arequipa with Renegotiable ATM connections

Jean-Yves Le Boudec, Silvia Giordano Cremonese

We have modified the popular Mbone tool vic (VIdeo Conferencing) to use Arequipa (Application REQuested IP over ATM). The latter enables applications and in particular vic, to request a direct ATM connection for its exclusive use and to directly control the traffic parameters of this connection. We have also implemented ATM Forums UNI4.0 signaling and ITU-Ts connection modification recommendation Q.2963.1, on end-systems as well as on switches. This implementation, coupled with the Arequipa mechanism, all
