The design of the EC Upper Launcher and Ex-vessel waveguide systems for ITER

The EC Upper Launcher (UL) and Ex-vessel waveguide (EW) are integral components of the ITER Electron Cyclotron (EC) system [1], which plays a key role in achieving and maintaining the high temperatures required for nuclear fusion within the tokamak, providing plasma heating and current drive, and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) stabilization, which are crucial for ITER’s operational success. The EC system is increasingly becoming the reference mechanism for plasma heating in both present and future devices. Nota

On the interplay between plasma triangularity and micro-tearing turbulence

Stefano Coda

In this work, we study the interplay between triangularity and micro-tearing turbulence using linear and nonlinear flux tube GENE simulations. We consider scenarios with negative and positive triangularity plasma shaping taken from existing tokamaks (TCV, DIII-D, MAST-U and SMART) and EU-DEMO. The study of all these tokamaks reveals a coherent picture. Negative triangularity geometry is more susceptible to micro-tearing modes (MTM), which, when present, make transport much worse than in positive triangulari

A Modern Framework to Support Disruption Studies: The Eurofusion Disruption Database

Olivier Sauter

Disruptions can lead to potential damage to the fusion reactors and represent one of the major obstacles for the successful exploitation of the tokamak concept in commercial fusion power plants. The European Fusion Roadmap has identified disruptions as a high-priority research area. In the present experiments, a significant effort is devoted to address key physics and engineering issues connected to disruptions. The huge amount of data produced during the experiments in the various facilities is one of the

Method development for discrimination of anodic and cathodic signals in miniature fission chambers for reactor physics applications

In 2014, a measurement campaign was made at CEA Cadarache using different versions of a high sensibility miniature fission chamber prototype with two fissile layers. The current project studies the possibilities of discrimination between signals coming from a fission in the fissile layer covering the anode or in the fissile layer covering the cathode. A specific fission chamber simulation tool, named Trace, has been developed. Simulation results show the feasibility of discrimination based on pulse shape. A
