I obtained my PhD (2012-2018) in KU Leuven/VIB, Belgium where I investigated astrocyte heterogeneity using single cell transcriptomics. During this period I developed tools to acutely and specifically isolate astrocytes from adult brain and identified five astrocyte subtypes in the cortex and hippocampus of mouse brain expanding previous understanding of astrocyte variability.Following my PhD, I did my first post-doc in

Pierre MagistrettiPierre J. Magistretti is an internationally-recognized neuroscientist who has made significant contributions in the field of brain energy metabolism. His group has discovered some of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the coupling between neuronal activity and energy consumption by the brain.
This work has considerable ramifications for the understanding of the origin of the signals detected with the current functional brain imaging techniques used in neurological and psychiatric research (see for example Magistretti et al, Science, 283: 496 497, 1999). He is the author of over 100 articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
He has given over 80 invited lectures at international meetings or at universities in Europe and North America, including the 2000 Talairach Lecture at the Functional Mapping of the Human Brain Conference. In November 2000 he has been a Mc Donnel Visiting Scholar at Washington University School of Medicine.
Pierre J. Magistretti is the President-Elect (2002 2004) of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) which has a membership of over 15000 European neuroscientists. He has been first president of the Swiss Society for Neuroscience (1997-1999) and the first Chairman of the Department of Neurosciences of the University of Lausanne (1996 1998).
Pierre J. Magistretti is Professor of Physiology (since 1988) at the University of Lausanne Medical School. He has been Vice-Dean of the University of Lausanne Medical School from 1996 to 2000. Fosco BernasconiBio I am a neuroscientist, interested in consciousness. I obtained a Ph.D. in neuroscience with Stéphanie Clarke & Lucas Spierer in Lausanne (Switzerland) in 2012. I then worked with Franz X Vollenweider in Zurich (Switzerland), and Niko A Busch in Berlin (Germany). Since 2014, I am working with Olaf Blanke at the EPFL & école polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne in Geneva. Currently, we investigate the role of altered (bodily) self-consciousness in aberrant perceptions, notably observed in psychiatric and n

She has published extensively on topics in pure algebraic topology including homotopy theory, operad theory, and algebraic K-theory. On the applied side, she has elaborated methods based on topological data analysis for high-throughput screening of nanoporous crystalline materials, classification and synthesis of neuron morphologies, and classification of neuronal network dynamics. She has also developed and applied innovative topological approaches to network theory, leading to a powerful, parameter-free mathematical framework relating the activity of a neural network to its underlying structure, both locally and globally. In 2016 she was elected to Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences and was named a fellow of the American Mathematical Society and a distinguished speaker of the European Mathematical Society in 2017. In 2021 she gave an invited Public Lecture at the European Congress of Mathematicians. She has won several teaching prizes at EPFL, including the Crédit Suisse teaching prize and the Polysphère d’Or.
