Significance: Fluorescence guidance is used clinically by surgeons to visualize anatomical and/or physiological phenomena in the surgical field that are difficult or impossible to detect by the naked eye. Such phenomena include tissue perfusion or molecula ...

We interact with the world through a body that includes hands and fingers. Likewise, providing an avatar allowing the control of a virtual body with fingers is an important step to improve the user experience in VR. When the user and their avatar skeleton ...

Poor indoor air quality has been associated with health issues and decreased work performance. Personal exposure that takes place both in outdoor and indoor environments is the result of dy-namic processes and complex interactions between people and surrou ...

VR (Virtual Reality) is a real-time simulation that creates the subjective illusion of being in a virtual world. This thesis explores how integrating the user's body and fingers can be achieved and beneficial for the user to experience VR. At the advent of ...

MRI is a non-invasive medical imaging modality that is sensitive to patient motion, which constitutes a major limitation in most clinical applications. Solutions may arise from the reduction of acquisition times or from motion-correction techniques, either ...

Laser phase noise remains a limiting factor in many experimental settings, including metrology, time-keeping, as well as quantum optics. Hitherto this issue was addressed at low frequencies ranging from well below 1 Hz to maximally 100 kHz. However, a wide ...

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have proven to be a robust power source for efficiently converting environmental mechanical energy into electricity. Triboelectric technology experienced substantial growth in the past few years, especially in the field ...

Simultaneous EEG-fMRI allows multiparametric characterisation of brain function, in principle enabling a more complete understanding of brain responses; unfortunately the hostile MRI environment severely reduces EEG data quality. Simply eliminating data se ...

While quantum mechanics imposes a fundamental limit on the precision of interferometric measurementsof mechanical motion due to measurement backaction, the nonlinear nature of the coupling also leads toparametric instabilities that place practical limits o ...

Perception depends on reference frames. For example, the "true'' cycloidal motion trajectory of a reflector on a bike's wheel is invisible because we perceive the reflector motion relative to the bike's motion trajectory, which serves as a reference frame. ...

With the broad range of motion capture devices available on the market, it is now commonplace to directly control the limb movement of an avatar during immersion in a virtual environment. Here, we study how the subjective experience of embodying a full-bod ...

When measuring the position of a mechanical oscillator, quantum mechanics imposes a strict limit on the attainable precision: Any reduction of imprecision leads to increased quantum backaction of the measuring probe on the oscillator. This quantum limit ca ...

PURPOSE: We suggest a motion correction concept that employs free-induction-decay (FID) navigator signals to continuously monitor motion and to guide the acquisition of image navigators for prospective motion correction following motion detection. METHODS: ...

PURPOSE: The goal of the present study was to use a three-dimensional (3D) gradient echo volume in combination with a fat-selective excitation as a 3D motion navigator (3D FatNav) for retrospective correction of microscopic head motion during high-resoluti ...

Self motion perception involves the integration of visual, vestibular, somatosensory and motor signals. This article reviews the findings from single unit electrophysiology, functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging and psychophysics to present ...

This paper addresses the problem of compression of 3D point cloud sequences that are characterized by moving 3D positions and color attributes. As temporally successive point cloud frames are similar, motion estimation is key to effective compression of th ...

Multiview autostereoscopic displays are considered as the future of 3DTV. However, these displays suffer from a high level of crosstalk, which negatively impacts quality of experience (QoE). In this paper, we propose a system to improve 3D QoE on multiview ...

Capturing and processing human geometry, appearance, and motion is at the core of computer graphics, computer vision, and human-computer interaction. The high complexity of human geometry and motion dynamics, and the high sensitivity of the human visual sy ...

This paper proposes a Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme to solve the target estimation and tracking problem. The objective is to derive a feedback law that drives an autonomous robotic vehicle to follow a target vehicle using an on-line estimate of the ...

Recently, European Union advocates the smart Solid-State Lighting (SSL). The key factors are a smart-control scheme and an interaction with other networks, such as communication networks and traffic monitoring sensor networks. Public lighting represents a ...
