Transformer models such as GPT generate human-like language and are predictive of human brain responses to language. Here, using functional-MRI-measured brain responses to 1,000 diverse sentences, we first show that a GPT-based encoding model can predict t ...

As a universal expression of human creativity, music is capable of conveying great subtlety and complexity. Crucially, this complexity is not encoded in the score or in the sounds, but is rather construed in the mind of the listener in the form of nuanced ...

Objective. Syntax involves complex neurobiological mechanisms, which are difficult to disentangle for multiple reasons. Using a protocol able to separate syntactic information from sound information we investigated the neural causal connections evoked by t ...

Music can be interpreted by attributing syntactic relationships to sequential musical events, and, computationally, such musical interpretation represents an analogous combinatorial task to syntactic processing in language. While this perspective has been ...

Description (through texts, images, models or samples) played a central role in the patent regimes that emerged in the eighteenth century, first in England, later in the United States and in France. Description ensured that the contract—protection in excha ...

Natural language processing has experienced significant improvements with the development of Transformer-based models, which employ self-attention mechanism and pre-training strategies. However, these models still present several obstacles. A notable issue ...

Vision-Language Pre-training (VLP) has advanced the performance of many visionlanguage tasks, such as image-text retrieval, visual entailment, and visual reasoning. The pre-training mostly utilizes lexical databases and image queries in English. Previous w ...

Natural language processing and other artificial intelligence fields have witnessed impressive progress over the past decade. Although some of this progress is due to algorithmic advances in deep learning, the majority has arguably been enabled by scaling ...

Due to the increasing demands of today's fast-paced world, mental health concerns are on the rise, which necessitates innovative approaches to provide support to those in need. Open-domain conversational agents known as chatbots, offer a unique opportunit ...

The Dependent Object Type (DOT) calculus was designed to put Scala on a sound basis, but while DOT relies on structural subtyping, Scala is a fundamentally class-based language. This impedance mismatch means that a proof of DOT soundness by itself is ...

Forecasting is a capability inherent in humans when navigating. Humans routinely plan their paths, considering the potential future movements of those around them. Similarly, to achieve comparable sophistication and safety, autonomous systems must embrace ...

PurposeTo perform a systematic review of literature specific to single-fraction stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for large vestibular schwannomas (VS), maximum diameter >= 2.5 cm and/or classified as Koos Grade IV, and to present consensus recommendations o ...

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Motor Imagery (MI) training on language comprehension. In line with literature suggesting an intimate relationship between the language and the motor system, we proposed that a MI-training could imp ...

Personalized ranking methods are at the core of many systems that learn to produce recommendations from user feedbacks. Their primary objective is to identify relevant items from very large vocabularies and to assist users in discovering new content. These ...

Utterance-level intent detection and token-level slot filling are two key tasks for spoken language understanding (SLU) in task-oriented systems. Most existing approaches assume that only a single intent exists in an utterance. However, there are often mul ...

Background: Dysconnectivity has been consistently proposed as a major key mechanism in psychosis. Indeed, disruptions in large-scale structural and functional brain networks have been associated with psychotic symptoms. However, brain activity is largely c ...

One of the many purposes for which social robots are designed is education, and there have been many attempts to systematize their potential in this field. What these attempts have in common is the recognition that learning can be supported in a variety of ...

Sign language technology, unlike spoken language technology, is an emerging area of research. Sign language technologies can help in bridging the gap between the Deaf community and the hearing community. One such computer-aided technology is sign language ...

Chatbots have long been advocated for computer-assisted language learning systems to support learners with conversational practice. A particular challenge in such systems is explaining mistakes stemming from ambiguous grammatical constructs. Misplaced modi ...

Fuzzers aware of the input grammar can explore deeper program states using grammar-aware mutations. Existing grammar-aware fuzzers are ineffective at synthesizing complex bug triggers due to: (i) grammars introducing a sampling bias during input generation ...
