Luminescence constitutes a unique source of insight into hot carrier processes in metals, including those in plasmonic nanostructures used for sensing and energy applications. However, being weak in nature, metal luminescence remains poorly understood, its ...

This dataset accompanies the publication "Quantum-mechanical effects in photoluminescence from thin crystalline gold films" published in Light: Science & Applications (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41377-024-01408-2). The data can be used to reproduce plots 1-4 ...

Successful application of diffusion chronometry is based on detailed knowledge of diffusion parameters obtained from laboratory experiments, which also need to be upscaled to be applied to natural samples. While generally applicable, several examples of di ...

The predicted climate changes on Earth will significantly impact the environment and human society. The climate patterns observed during the past centuries led to a better understanding of the driving forces for such changes. However, more studies using ne ...

The Montecristo wild goat is an endangered feral population that has been on the homonymous island in the Tuscan Archipelago since ancient times. The origins of Montecristo goats are still debated, with authors dating their introduction either back to Neol ...

The phenomenon of online dating via web and mobile phone applications involves several actors: graphical interfaces, developers, algorithmic systems for user matching, and users. These actors have been studied in parallel by the social sciences and by comp ...

This study deals with the impact of spatio-temporal heterogeneities on the assessment of lake ecological status according to the European water framework directive (WFD). A method, based on three-dimensional coupled hydrodynamic and ecological modeling, is ...

The responses of uranium-bearing accessory minerals to shock metamorphism have received growing interest, because under extreme pressure and temperature conditions, these phases can form unique microstructures and/or polymorphs and their radiometric ages c ...

Well-dated records of tropical glacier fluctuations are essential for developing hypotheses and testing proposed mechanisms for past climate changes. Since organic material for radiocarbon dating is typically scarce in low-latitude, high-altitude environme ...

Background: Leprosy has afflicted humankind throughout history leaving evidence in both early texts and the archaeological record. In Britain, leprosy was widespread throughout the Middle Ages until its gradual and unexplained decline between the 14th and ...

With its smaller size, well-known boundary conditions, and the availability of detailed bathymetric data, Lake Geneva's subaquatic canyon in the Rhone Delta is an excellent analogue to understand sedimentary processes in deep-water submarine channels. A mu ...

Summary Understanding the peopling of the Americas remains an important and challenging question. Here, we present 14C dates, and morphological, isotopic and genomic sequence data from two human skulls from the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, part of one of ...

The IceCube Neutrino Observatory and its prototype, AMANDA, were built in South Pole ice, using powerful hot-water drills to cleanly bore >100 holes to depths up to 2500 m. The construction of these particle physics detectors provided a unique opportunity ...

Ag-ZrN films were deposited on polyester by direct current pulsed magnetron sputtering (from now on DCMSP) in Ar + N-2 atmosphere. ZrN on the polyester surface interacts with Ag leading to Ag-ZrN films. These composite films were more active in Escherichia ...

The work addresses research by design as a subject and a method. It explores theorizations, experimentations, and verifications, all of them engaged in writing, drawing and building. It is discovery-led, and starts from a blurry "state of the arts". It osc ...

Many details about the flow of water in soils in a hillslope are unknowable given current technologies. One way of learning about the bulk effects of water velocity distributions on hillslopes is through the use of tracers. However, this paper will demonst ...

We have amplified Mycobacterium leprae DNA from the skeleton of an adult human female exhibiting signs of lepromatous leprosy (LL). The remains were excavated from the site of Devkesken 6 on the Ustyurt plateau of Uzbekistan and date to between the 1st and ...

We present a detailed study of the luminescence at 3.42 eV usually observed in a-plane epitaxial lateral overgrowth (ELO) GaN grown by hydride vapor phase epitaxy on r-plane sapphire. This band is related to radiative recombination of excitons in a commonl ...

Pompeii was a Roman city, destroyed and completely buried during an eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius. We have revived its past by creating a 3D model of its previous appearance and populated it with crowds of Virtual Romans. In this paper, we detail ...

We studied the Holocene developmental history of a small kettle-hole peatland in northern Poland using radiocarbon dating and analyses of pollen, plant macrofossils, and testate amoebae with the aim to sort out the influences of climate change, autogenic s ...
