The Human-Oriented Environmental Laboratory (HOBEL) at EPFL focuses on advancing knowledge in indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency in buildings. Led by Prof. Dusan Licina, HOBEL conducts research on air pollutant dynamics, human inhalation exposures, smart ventilation systems, and human comfort. Through a combination of laboratory experiments, field studies, modeling, and data analysis, HOBEL aims to ensure high indoor air quality with minimal energy consumption. Recent projects include assessing the impact of real-time indoor air quality awareness on occupant behavior and evaluating indoor air quality and thermal comfort in campus buildings. HOBEL's research interests encompass pollutant dynamics in indoor air, exposure science, air quality engineering, and smart building ventilation.
