The Laboratory of Calculation Systems (DCSL) at EPFL focuses on systems-level problems within datacenters, integrating operating systems, networks, and computer architecture. They have a strong emphasis on open-sourcing their software at the time of publication and have a history of publishing research in top conferences. Current projects include R2P2, Secured Routines, and Platform Root of Trust with OpenTitan. The lab receives funding from various sources including VMware, Microsoft, EPFL-ETH Zurich Joint Research Center, Nano-Tera project, and the Botnar Foundation. Prof. Edouard Bugnion, a key figure at DCSL, has a background in co-founding VMware and Nuova Systems, and has received prestigious awards for his contributions to the field.
