Chair of Statistical Field Theory

The Theory of Statistical Fields (CSFT) at EPFL focuses on statistical mechanics, quantum field theory, learning theory, and blockchain technologies. They investigate the connection between lattice models and conformal field theories, dynamics of neural networks during training, and decentralized systems like blockchain technologies. Key projects include artificial life, automated exploration of large spaces, and algorithmic game theory. The unit has a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research, bridging discrete and continuous models, statistical and quantum theories, and algebraic and probabilistic structures. Recent achievements include successful PhD defenses, post-doc appointments, and awards recognizing the innovative work of its members.
