The design point that had been chosen for EU DEMO in 2016 is reviewed here and a modification is proposed with a lower aspect ratio. Previously the same aspect ratio, A, was chosen for EU DEMO as in major tokamak experiments including ITER (A = 3.1), and, ...

The effect of divertor closure and nitrogen seeding on the detachment process has been studied by performing 2D numerical simulations of tokamak a configuration variable (TCV) H-mode divertor scenarios with the SOLEDGE3X-EIRENE edge plasma transport code. ...

After the second Deuterium-Tritium Campaign (DTE2) in the JET tokamak with the ITER-Like Wall (ILW) and full tritium campaigns that preceded and followed after the DTE2, a sequence of fuel recovery methods was applied to promote tritium removal from wall c ...

The ITER Heating Neutral Beam (HNB) source prototype SPIDER (Source for the Production of Ions of Deuterium Extracted from a Radio frequency plasma), hosted at the Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) in Padova, Italy, has recently started operating with evap ...

In JET deuterium-tritium (D-T) plasmas, the fusion power is produced through thermonuclear reactions and reactions between thermal ions and fast particles generated by neutral beam injection (NBI) heating or accelerated by electromagnetic wave heating in t ...

Two related methods for inverting line-integrated measurements are presented in this research paper in the context of the recent deuterium-tritium experiments in the JET tokamak. Unlike traditional methods of tomography, these methods rely on making use of ...

The JET hybrid scenario has been developed from low plasma current carbon wall discharges to the record-breaking Deuterium-Tritium plasmas obtained in 2021 with the ITER-like Be/W wall. The development started in pure Deuterium with refinement of the plasm ...

SPIDER is the negative ion source testbed for ITER neutral beam injector. It is currently the largest negative ion source ever built, equipped with a 100 keV accelerator, aiming at producing a negative ion beam with an extracted current density in hydrogen ...

Ion cyclotron resonance heating, which we refer to as ICRH-SS, with the quasilinear (QL) separatrix (i.e., the separatrix in the space of QL routes of ion acceleration) located in the region of passing particles is studied. The aim of ICRH-SS is to minimiz ...

This paper summarizes the physical principles behind the novel three-ion scenarios using radio frequency waves in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF). We discuss how to transform mode conversion electron heating into a new flexible ICRF technique ...

Jet injection devices have been studied and developed for transdermal drug delivery to avoid the use of needles. Due to bulky actuation mechanisms, they are limited to body areas that are easy to reach such as skin. Here, we demonstrate a thin and long liq ...

Dedicated experiments to generate energetic D ions and D-(3) He fusion-born alpha particles were performed at the Joint European Torus (JET) with the ITER-like wall (ILW). Using the 3-ion D-(D-NBI)-(3) He radio frequency (RF) heating scenario, deuterium io ...

For the first time, the JET operation in deuterium-tritium (D-T) plasma, which is scheduled to take place on JET in 2020, will be performed in the ITER mix of plasma-facing component materials. In view of the preparation of the DT campaign (DTE2), several ...

For the past several years, the JET scientific programme (Pamela et al 2007 Fusion Eng. Des. 82 590) has been engaged in a multi-campaign effort, including experiments in D, H and T, leading up to 2020 and the first experiments with 50%/50% D-T mixtures si ...

An effect due to fusion born triton production has been observed in JET high-performance deuterium plasma discharges with neutral beam injection (NBI) and H-minority ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) heating, using DD and deuterium tritium (DT) neu ...

Data on erosion and melting of beryllium upper limiter tiles, so-called dump plates (DP), are presented for all three campaigns in the JET tokamak with the ITER-like wall. High-resolution images of the upper wall of JET show clear signs of flash melting on ...

The erosion of tungsten (W), induced by the bombardment of plasma and impurity particles, determines the lifetime of plasma-facing components as well as impacting on plasma performance by the influx of W into the confined region. The screening of W by the ...

Selected set of samples from JET ITER-Like Wall (JET-ILW) divertor tiles exposed in 2015-2016 has been analysed using Thermal Desorption Spectrometry (TDS). The deuterium (D) amounts obtained with TDS were compared with Nuclear Reaction Analysis (NRA). The ...

Selected set of samples from JET ITER-Like Wall (JET-ILW) divertor tiles exposed both in 2013-2014 and 2011-2014 has been analysed using Thermal Desorption Spectrometry (TDS). The deuterium (D) amounts obtained with TDS were compared with Ion Beam Analysis ...

Neutron activation technique has been widely used for the monitoring of neutron fluence at the Joint European Torus (JET) whereas it is foreseen to be employed at future fusion plants, such as ITER and DEMO. Neutron activation provides a robust tool for th ...
