The high confinement mode (H-mode) is a promising route to achieve high performance tokamak operations, as the ones foreseen in ITER and beyond. However, accessing a stable H-mode phase requires that the power across the plasma separatrix, Psep, exceeds a ...

The paper describes the operation and upgrade of the Heating Neutral Beam Injection (HNBI) system as well as the related infrastructure at the Tokamak Configuration Variable (TCV) during the last years. In 2023, the installation of new TCV neutron shieldin ...

This study examines the sawtooth crash phenomenon in tokamak plasmas by modeling it as a sequence of multi-region relaxed magnetohydrodynamic (MRxMHD) equilibria. Using the stepped-pressure equilibrium code, we constructed a series of equilibria representi ...

X-Point Radiator (XPR) regimes have been obtained in WEST tokamak experiments with nitrogen seeding during the experimental campaigns of 2023 and 2024. These experiments showed the formation of a stable toroidal radiating ring near the X-point, similar to ...

An amplitude analysis of the D+-> (-)pi(+)pi(+) decay is performed with a sample corresponding to 1.5 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy root s = 8 TeV collected by the LHCb detector in 2012. The sample contains app ...

The present work investigates the three-dimensional flow of a thin liquid film distributed on the outer surface of an ellipsoid, rotating around the vertical axis at constant angular velocity. The lubrication approximation expressing the evolution of the f ...

Many approximate solutions of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation can be formulated as exact solutions of a nonlinear Schrodinger equation with an effective Hamiltonian operator depending on the state of the system. We show that Heller's thawed Gaussia ...

A toroidal Alfven eigenmode (TAE) has been observed to be driven by alpha particles in a JET deuterium-tritium internal transport barrier plasma. The observation occurred 50 ms after the removal of neutral beam heating (NBI). The mode is observed on magnet ...

Solid mixtures of ammonia and water, the so-called ammonia hydrates, are thought to be major components of solar and extra-solar icy planets. We present here a thorough characterization of the recently reported high pressure (P)-temperature (T) phase VII o ...

Alpha particles with energies on the order of megaelectronvolts will be the main source of plasma heating in future magnetic confinement fusion reactors. Instead of heating fuel ions, most of the energy of alpha particles is transferred to electrons in the ...

We describe a method to measure the relaxation rates in Rubidium (Rb) Pulsed Optically Pumped (POP) vapor cell frequency standards. By means of repeated spectroscopy measurements with varying Ramsey time, we show how to extract multiple estimations of the ...

Humidity is one of the most relevant physical parameters to sense and control for a wide range of commercial and industrial applications. Consequently, there is continuing demand for the development of innovative and sustainable humidity sensor solutions. ...

SPIDER is the full scale prototype for the ITER Heating Neutral Beam (HNB) source. The production of negative ions in the source mostly relies on the conversion of H/D atoms and positive ions on a 1.6 m x 0.8 m converter surface, which is covered with cesi ...

Container motion along a planar circular trajectory at a constant angular velocity, i.e. orbital shaking, is of interest in several industrial applications, e.g. for fermentation processes or in cultivation of stem cells, where good mixing and efficient ga ...

Ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) represent one of the main technologies for developing sensors to measure ions concentration in human tissues. All-solid-state ISEs are of key importance for sensor miniaturization, especially toward point-of-care application ...

The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate CP asymmetry of the D0 ??? x-+x-?????+????? and D0 ??? K+K?????+????? decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at cente ...

The Tokamak a Configuration Variable (TCV) has recently been equipped with gas baffles to increase its divertor closure for a broad range of divertor magnetic geometries. First experimental results reported in Reimerdes et al. (2021) demonstrated compatibi ...

The accessibility of solitons in driven-dissipative photonic dimers drastically varies for different supermode families. We explain the origin of this phenomenon and show its crucial influence on any soliton lattice configuration including topological arra ...

This paper presents a systematic approach to transduction optimization of resonant piezo-based MEMS devices. The method is based on inverse design approach using direct piezoelectric effect and exploits mechanical action of desired mode to calculate the po ...
