The goal of this work is to use anisotropic adaptive finite elements for the numerical simulation of aluminium electrolysis. The anisotropic adaptive criteria are based on a posteriori error estimates derived for simplified problems. First, we consider an ...

Out-of-equilibrium systems continuously generate entropy, with its rate of production being a fingerprint of nonequilibrium conditions. In small-scale dissipative systems subject to thermal noise, fluctuations of entropy production are significant. Hithert ...

We present a novel framework for the reconstruction of 1D composite signals assumed to be a mixture of two additive components, one sparse and the other smooth, given a finite number of linear measurements. We formulate the reconstruction problem as a cont ...

A unified numerical framework is presented for the modelling of multiphasic viscoelastic and elastic flows. The rheologies considered range from incompressible Newtonian or Oldroyd-B viscoelastic fluids to Neo-Hookean elastic solids. The model is formulate ...

Ultrasound (US) imaging is currently living a revolution. On the one hand, ultrafast US imaging, a novel way of acquiring and producing US images, has paved the way to several advanced imaging modes, e.g. shear-wave elastography, ultrafast Doppler imaging ...

We introduce Neural Network (NN for short) approximation architectures for the numerical solution of Boundary Integral Equations (BIEs for short). We exemplify the proposed NN approach for the boundary reduction of the potential problem in two spatial dime ...

The present invention concerns a pulse wave image reconstruction method to be used for example in ultrasound imaging. The proposed method is based on an image measurement model and its adjoint operator. The proposed method introduces matrix-free formulatio ...

Nanocavities formed by ultrathin metallic gaps permitthe reproducibleengineering and enhancement of light-matter interaction, withmode volumes reaching the smallest values allowed by quantum mechanics. While the enhanced vacuum field in metallic nanogaps ha ...

The vibrational response of solid materials and structural components is substantially governed by their mechanical and geometrical properties. Low-frequency vibrations and modal frequencies are sensitive to global geometrical deviations, while high-freque ...

In optical diffraction tomography, the multiply scattered field is a nonlinear function of the refractive index (RI) of the object. The Rytov method relies on a single-scattering propagation model and is commonly used to reconstruct images. Recently, a rec ...

Optical diffraction tomography relies on solving an inverse scattering problem governed by the wave equation. Classical reconstruction algorithms are based on linear approximations of the forward model (Born or Rytov), which limits their applicability to t ...

Ultrafast ultrasound (US) imaging based on plane wave (PW) insonification is a widely used modality nowadays. Two main types of approaches have been proposed for image reconstruction either based on classical delay-and-sum (DAS) or on Fourier reconstructio ...

Parallel MRI (pMRI) and compressed sensing MRI (CS-MRI) have been considered as two distinct reconstruction problems. Inspired by recent k-space interpolation methods, an annihilating filter-based low-rank Hankel matrix approach is proposed as a general fr ...

The Mumford-Shah model is a very powerful variational approach for edge preserving regularization of image reconstruction processes. However, it is algorithmically challenging because one has to deal with a non-smooth and non-convex functional. In this pap ...

Motivated by the interior tomography problem, we propose a method for exact reconstruction of a region of interest of a function from its local Radon transform in any number of dimensions. Our aim is to verify the feasibility of a one-dimensional reconstru ...

We develop a high-performance scheme to reconstruct straight-ray tomographic scans. We preserve the quality of the state-of-the-art schemes typically found in traditional computed tomography but reduce the computational cost substantially. Our approach is ...

SporTran is a Python utility designed to estimate generic transport coefficients in extended systems, based on the Green-Kubo theory of linear response and the recently introduced cepstral analysis of the current time series generated by molecular dynamics ...

A sensor is a device that detects or measures a physical property and records, indicates, or otherwise responds to it. In other words, a sensor allows us to interact with the surrounding environment, by measuring qualitatively or quantitatively a given phe ...

FLUKA is a general purpose Monte Carlo code able to describe the transport and interaction of any particle and nucleus type in complex geometries over an energy range extending from thermal neutrons to ultrarelativistic hadron collisions. It has many diffe ...

X-ray differential phase-contrast tomography is a recently-developed modality for the imaging of low-contrast biological samples. Its mathematical model is based on the first derivative of the Radon transform and the images, in practice, are reconstructed ...
