Recent years have seen spectacular developments in the domain of nano-optics. Alongside the well-known techniques of super-resolution microscopy progress in nanofabrication has enabled important improvements in the fields of optical imaging and spectros ...

The accuracy required for a correct interpretation of differential reflectivity (ZDR) is typically estimated to be between 0.1 and 0.2 dB. This is achieved through calibration, defined as the identification of the constant or time-varying offset to be subt ...

Modelling and forecasting wind-driven redistribution of snow in mountainous regions with its implications on avalanche danger, mountain hydrology or flood hazard is still a challenging task often lacking in essential details. Measurements of drifting and b ...

For the EU DEMO Tokamak, Electron Cyclotron (EC) launching systems for plasma heating and stabilization are under development. Various concepts for the optical system are currently studied of which the Mid Steering Antenna (MSA) with a steering mirror at a ...

The possibility of performing electron density and temperature measurements in a high power helicon plasma is a crucial issue in the framework of the AWAKE (Advanced WAKefield Experiment) project, which demonstrates acceleration of particles using GeV m(-1 ...

The link between stratiform precipitation microphysics and multifrequency radar observables is thoroughly investigated by exploiting simultaneous airborne radar and in situ observations collected from two aircraft during the OLYMPEX/RADEX (Olympic Mountain ...

The accurate estimation of precipitation quantities arriving at the ground in complex terrain such as the Alps is complicated by many factors. The orography interacts with atmospheric flow and thus influences the spatial and temporal distribution as well a ...

The First Mirror Test for ITER has been carried out in JET with mirrors exposed during: (i) the third ILW campaign (ILW-3, 2015-2016, 23.33 h plasma) and (ii) all three campaigns, i.e. ILW-1 to ILW-3: 2011-2016, 63,52 h in total. All mirrors from main cham ...

A conventional monopulse radar system uses three beams, namely, sum beam, elevation difference beam, and azimuth difference beam, which require different layers of weights to synthesize each beam independently. Since the multilayer structure increases the ...

Floods are responsible for one third of the economic losses induced by natural hazards throughout the world. To better protect the population and infrastructures, flood forecasting systems make us of weather forecasts to foresee floods several days in adva ...

In ASDEX Upgrade, the propagation of cold pulses induced by type-I edge localized modes (ELMs) is studied using electron cyclotron emission measurements, in a dataset of plasmas with moderate triangularity. It is found that the edge safety factor or the pl ...

An extension of the SolEdge2D-EIRENE code package, named D-WEE, has been developed to add the dynamics of thermal desorption of hydrogen isotopes from the surface of plasma facing materials. To achieve this purpose, D-WEE models hydrogen isotopes implantat ...
