Abstract

Nanoparticles are interesting for biomedical imaging as novel non- fluorescent non-bleaching labels. We present the characterization of freely diffusing nanoparticles using third harmonic generation correlation spectroscopy by illumination with a focussed pulsed femtosecond laser. We present the optical system as well as first spectroscopic results on nanoparticles.

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy is a spectroscopic technique that uses ultrashort pulse lasers for the study of dynamics on extremely short time scales (attoseconds to nanoseconds). It can be used to characterize new materials or identify and verify known and unknown samples. The method or technique of infrared spectroscopy is conducted with an instrument called an infrared spectrometer (or spectrophotometer) which produces an infrared spectrum.
