A rigorous modeling approach to describe luminescent coupling (LC) effects in perovskite-Silicon tandems is presented. A novel modeling framework describing the internal optical fields in the device, allowing for the quantification of emission and reabsorption rates, is coupled to an electronic transport model to simulate the device’s fully self-consistent optoelectronic response. Electronic transport can be either described by an idealized equivalent circuit model, or a full drift-diffusion approach. The model is compared to measurements and used to analyze LC effects on the experimental tandem’s EQE response, and how these can be distinguished from bottom cell shunts. It is shown how their different subcell voltage dependence manifests in a distinguishable signal as illumination intensity or applied bias is varied.
