Method for converting nitrogen-containing polymers into hydrocarbon compounds

The invention relates to a method for converting a polymer into hydrocarbon compounds, comprising the steps of a. contacting the polymer with a catalyst to provide a reaction mixture, wherein the polymer contains nitrogen in the polymer backbone, wherein the catalyst comprises a transition metal on a carrier, b. heating the reaction mixture in the presence of a reducing agent to a temperature of 50 to 1000°C, c. recovering the hydrocarbon compounds from the reaction mixture.
