The current standard model of cosmology successfully describes a variety of measurements, but the nature of its main ingredients, dark matter and dark energy, remains unknown. Euclid is a medium-class mission in the Cosmic Vision 2015–2025 programme of the ...

We present the Flagship galaxy mock, a simulated catalogue of billions of galaxies designed to support the scientific exploitation of the Euclid mission. Euclid is a medium-class mission of the European Space Agency optimised to determine the properties of ...

The Virgo Filament Survey (VFS) is a comprehensive study of galaxies that reside in the extended filamentary structures surrounding the Virgo Cluster, out to 12 virial radii. The primary goal is to characterize all of the dominant baryonic components withi ...

In preparation for the next generation of galaxy redshift surveys, and in particular the year-one data release from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), we investigate the consistency of a variety of effective field theory models that describe ...

JWST spectroscopy has discovered a population of z greater than or similar to 3.5 galaxies with broad Balmer emission lines and narrow forbidden lines that are consistent with hosting active galactic nuclei (AGN). Many of these systems, now known as "littl ...

The Euclid Wide Survey (EWS) is predicted to find approximately 170 000 galaxy-galaxy strong lenses from its lifetime observation of 14 000 deg2 of the sky. Detecting this many lenses by visual inspection with professional astronomers and citizen scientist ...

We show that the Kontsevich-Segal-Witten (KSW) criterion applied to the no-boundary state constrains anisotropic deformations of de Sitter space. We consider squashed S3 and S1×S2 boundaries and find that, in both models, the KSW criterion excludes a signi ...

The presence of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) in low mass (M⋆ ≲ 109 M⊙) galaxies at high redshift has been established, and it is important to characterise these objects and the impact of their feedback on the host galaxies. In this paper we apply the Spect ...

Precise and accurate mass calibration is required to exploit galaxy clusters as astrophysical and cosmological probes in the Euclid era. Systematic errors in lensing signals by galaxy clusters can be empirically estimated by comparing different surveys wit ...

We present the addition of nebular emission from the narrow-line regions (NLR) surrounding active galactic nuclei (AGNs) to BEAGLE (BayEsian Analysis of GaLaxy sEds). Using a set of idealized spectra, we fit to a set of observables (emission-line ratios an ...

Forthcoming imaging surveys will increase the number of known galaxy-scale strong lenses by several orders of magnitude. For this to happen, images of billions of galaxies will have to be inspected to identify potential candidates. In this context, deep-le ...

We present a comprehensive study of the star formation histories of massive-quenched galaxies at z = 3 in three semi-analytical models (SHARK, GAEA, GALFORM) and three cosmological hydrodynamical simulations (EAGLE, ILLUSTRISTNG, SIMBA). We study the predi ...

Context. Radio observations have revealed magnetic fields in the intracluster medium (ICM) of galaxy clusters, and their energy density is nearly in equipartition with the turbulent kinetic energy. This suggests magnetic field amplification by dynamo proce ...

We homogeneously measured the elliptical shapes of 163 globular clusters (GCs) using the on-sky distribution of their cluster members and the third data release of the ESA mission Gaia (DR3). The astrometry enables the differentiation of stars within clust ...

All modern galaxy formation models employ stochastic elements in their sub-grid prescriptions to discretize continuous equations across the time domain. In this paper, we investigate how the stochastic nature of these models, notably star formation, black ...

We present the discovery and preliminary characterisation of two high-redshift gravitationally lensed quasar systems in Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2). Candidates with multiple close-separation Gaia detections and quasar-like colours in WISE, Pan-STARRS, and DE ...

Axion inflation coupled to the Standard Model (SM) hypercharge gauge sector represents an attractive scenario for the generation of primordial hypemiagnetic fields. The description of this scenario is, however, complicated by the Schwinger effect, which gi ...
