The simultaneous application of high magnetic fields and high pressures for controlling magnetic ground states is important for testing our understanding of many-body quantum theory. However, the implementation for neutron scattering experiments presents a ...

Traditional magnetic levitation trains (maglev) generally use two or three separate systems to perform propulsion, levitation, and guidance (PLG) functionalities. Linear electromagnetic motors (LEMs) may be used for propulsion, electromagnetic suspension ( ...

Steel-copper multi-material structures produced via Additive Manufacturing pose challenges in laser co-processing and microstructural control. This work employs neutron imaging, Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD), and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (E ...

The 4-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) under alkaline conditions is central to the development of non-noble metal-based hydrogen fuel cell technologies. However, the kinetics of ORR are constrained by scaling relations, where the adsorption free en ...

Low-dimensional materials are susceptible to electronic instabilities such as charge density waves (CDWs), originating from a divergence in the Lindhard electron response function, combined with a finite electron-phonon coupling strength. In this paper, we ...

Ammonium fluoride (NH₄F) exhibits a variety of crystalline phases depending on temperature and pressure. By employing Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron X-ray diffraction beyond megabar pressures (up to 140 GPa), we have here observed a novel dense solid p ...

The discovery of superconductivity at 80 K under high pressure in La3Ni2O7 3 Ni 2 O 7 presents the groundbreaking confirmation that high-Tc T c superconductivity is a property of strongly correlated materials beyond cuprates. We use density functional theo ...

In this thesis, we discuss the problems of scattering and optical manipulation related to nanosystems of different complexities. The multipolar decomposition method is used to represent scattering processes in nanosystems as a series of elementary excitati ...

Solid mixtures of ammonia and water, the so-called ammonia hydrates, are thought to be major components of solar and extra-solar icy planets. We present here a thorough characterization of the recently reported high pressure (P)-temperature (T) phase VII o ...

Coarse gamma ' precipitates with ordered structure (i.e. primary gamma ' precipitates) residing on grain boundaries in nickelbased superalloys are generally considered to be non-deformable, they are thus being tailored to restrict grain growth during hot d ...

Single crystals of Fe[SeO4]OH have been synthesized by hydrothermal treatment. The Fe[SeO4]OH structure was investigated using the superspace approach. It is shown that the structure belongs to a family of compounds including kieserite-like and pauflerite- ...

Optimising the hydration of cementitious materials is crucial to leverage their full potential and avoid wasting resources, embodied energy and CO2. Understanding the fundamental mechanisms is key to reach these objectives. In this paper, we review progres ...

The crystal structure of Ba-5(IO6)(2), pentabarium bis(orthoperiodate), has been re-investigated at room temperature based on single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. In comparison with a previous crystal structure determination by the Rietveld method, an im ...

Controlling the optical response of a medium through suitably tuned coherent electromagnetic fields is highly relevant in a number of potential applications, from all-optical modulators to optical storage devices. In particular, electromagnetically induced ...
