Plasma turbulence plays a fundamental role in determining the performances of magnetic confinement fusion devices, such as tokamaks. Advances in computer science, combined with the development of efficient physical models, have significantly improved our u ...

Within the 9th European Framework programme, since 2021 EUROfusion is operating five tokamaks under the auspices of a single Task Force called ‘Tokamak Exploitation’. The goal is to benefit from the complementary capabilities of each machine in a coordinat ...

A low-AC loss Rare-earth barium copper oxide (REBCO) cable, based on the VIPER cable technology has been developed by commonwealth fusion systems for use in high-field, compact tokamaks. The new cable is composed of partitioned and transposed copper ‘petal ...

The negative ion source SPIDER at Consorzio RFX (Italy) is a crucial experimental step towards the development of the Heating Neutral Beam (HNB) injectors for ITER. The goal of SPIDER is to operate and optimize a full-scale negative ion source in hydrogen ...

Deterministic positioning single site-controlled high symmetric InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) in (111)B-oriented GaAs photonic crystal cavities with nanometer-scale accuracy provides an idea component for building integrated quantum photonic circuits. However, ...

We report on coherent propagation of antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin waves over a long distance (similar to 10 mu m) at room temperature in a canted AFM alpha-Fe2O3 owing to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Unprecedented high group velocities (up ...

We examine the role of charge, structural, and spin degrees of freedom in the previously poorly understood phase transition in the 5d1 transition-metal double perovskite Cs2TaCl6 using a combination of computational and experimental techniques. Our heat ca ...

Infrared spectroscopy provides unique information on the composition and dynamics of biochemical systems by resolving the characteristic absorption fingerprints of their constituent molecules. Based on this inherent chemical specificity and the capability ...

3D free boundary equilibrium computations have recently been used to model external kinks and edge harmonic oscillations (EHOs), comparing with linear MHD stability codes, and nonlinear analytic theory [Kleiner et al., Phys. Plasma Controlled Fusion 61, 08 ...

Efficient excitation of nuclei via exchange of a real or virtual photon has a fundamental importance for nuclear science and technology development. Here, we present a mechanism of nuclear excitation based on the capture of a free muon into the atomic orbi ...

We study the problem of assortative and disassortative partitions on random dregular graphs. Nodes in the graph are partitioned into two non-empty groups. In the assortative partition every node requires at least H of their neighbors to be in their own gro ...

Polymer light-emitting electrochemical cells (PLECs) and light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) receive interest for large-area lighting and signage applications. During operation of a PLEC, a p-i-n junction develops where electrons and holes are injected into the ...

This work explores the development and the analysis of an efficient reduced order model for the study of a bifurcating phenomenon, known as the Coanda effect, in a multi-physics setting involving fluid and solid media. Taking into consideration a fluid-str ...

We investigate the load transmission along an elastic rod of finite cross-section in contact with a rigid cylinder, as system often referred to as the generalized capstan problem. In the presence of friction, the idealized classic capstan equation predicts ...

Negative hydrogen or deuterium ions are the precursor particles used to generate a high power beam of neutrals in order to heat the tokamak plasma core of magnetic fusion devices, inject current, and to some extent control instabilities. In the case of ITE ...

The Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV) tokamak is in the midst of an upgrade to further its capability to investigate conventional and alternative divertor configurations. To that end, modular and removable gas baffles have been installed to decrease t ...

Magnetic colloids adsorbed at a fluid interface are unique model systems to understand self-assembly in confined environments, both in equilibrium and out of equilibrium, with important potential applications. In this work the pearl-chain-like self-assembl ...

Photoluminescence (PL) spectra of atomically thin 2D lead iodide perovskite films are shown to depend on excited-state density, especially at cryogenic temperatures. At high excited-state densities and low temperatures, free exciton (FE) emission is so sup ...

A search is presented for long-lived particles produced in pairs in proton-proton collisions at the LHC operating at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were collected with the CMS detector during the period from 2015 through 2018, and correspond t ...
