A mathematical model of a horizontal line of finite length for calculating fast transient processes in the time domain is proposed. The mathematical model of the line is based on a finite difference ·approximation of the integro-differential equations, which are more general then the traditionally telegraphic equations. The well-known method of dividing the line in a number of segments with lumped elements is used. The originally is that mutual interaction between the different segments are taken into account. As the equivalent circuits are convenient mathematical models for calculations electromagnetic processes in the lines the use of equivalent circuits represents an advantage. It is shown that only for segments situated at the line ends the mutual interaction must be considered. This model takes in an approximative way into account the phenomenon of electromagnetic energy radiation. The line model can be combined with load models, including non-linear devices.
