Over the past decade, a growing interest appeared for III-nitride semiconductors, in view of their potential applications in intersubband (ISB) devices. If these materials are nowadays famous, particularly for having revolutionized domestic lighting thanks ...

A measurement setup for the detailed study of the transverse piezoelectric coefficient e(31,f) in the converse (actuator) mode was developed. It allows the assessment of the piezoelectric stress in thin films on silicon cantilevers and provides for a corre ...

This paper presents the first realizations of a novel concept for thermal energy harvesting at micro scale. The devices proposed here are based on a two-step transduction combining thermo-mechanical and piezoelectric conversion. In this contribution, we pr ...

Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films on insulator-buffered silicon substrates with interdigitated electrodes (IDEs) have the potential to harvest more energy than parallel plate electrode (PPE) structures because the former exploit the longitudinal pie ...

The use of interdigitated electrodes (IDEs) in conjunction with ferroelectric thin films shows many attractive features for piezoelectric MEMS applications. In this work, growth of {1 0 0}-textured lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films was achieved on i ...

Ferroelectric switching in circular and ring capacitors has been performed using a stroboscopic mode of piezoresponse force microscopy. A simple geometric model incorporating the characteristic domain wall motion is sufficient to describe the switching of ...

Resonators for time and frequency reference applications are essential elements found in most electronic devices surrounding us. The continuous minimization and ubiquitous distribution of such electronic devices and circuits demands for resonators of small ...

In this work we present a novel strategy to fabricate printed comb electrodes devices with decreased size by the introduction of a thin dielectric layer between the two combs. The electrical insulation of the two polarities prevents short-cuts occurring be ...

Micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology is revolutionizing industrial and consumer products by replacing bulky devices by miniaturized versions that are suitable for portable applications as for instance in mobile phones. Besides small size, the ...

Interdigitated electrode (IDE) systems with lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films play an increasingly important role for two reasons: first, such a configuration generates higher voltages than parallel plate capacitor-type electrode (PPE) structures, a ...

The recent progress in synthesis and integration of highly piezoelectric lead-zirconate-titanate (PZT) thin films onto silicon substrates are paving the way for new, more efficient and faster devices in micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). In compariso ...
